Lesson Learnt

Today I learnt an important lesson. Don't trust ANYONE in the avairy.

Lastnight my brother was the last to check the birds. He only shut the safety door and not the door to the outside. Unknown to him there was abirdie in the safety door area with him. My little Jak Jak was flew away.

Thankfully i found her this afternoon sitting on our back fence. I once taught her to come when i call. And so i tried it and she came ot me HURRAY!!! She is tired and hungary but seems okay. What a big adventure out int he wild for a whole night

I am so very very lucky! I can't believe my brother would just leave the door open! He is henceforth band from the avairy and all other bird things.:

I'm so pleased Jak-Jak is home!

must be my lucky day!

cheers

Meg

What a relief Meg. You are so lucky to have Jak Jak back safely.

The "dont trust anyone" theory also works for me as my husband has just poisoned my birds by putting toxic branches in the aviary. He is banned.

I read about you birds Kaz I'm so sorry some beautiful babes lost:(

One helpful suggestion as my husband was always leaving doors open too ...and I lost a few birds that way....

the solution was I put springs on the main doors so that even if forgotten to be closed, the doors shut over anyway. Although not locked they stayed shut enough to prevent escapes.

Good plan. I looked into that before but didn't have much luck finding the right sized spings.. but now i have some more motivation to have a better llok around.

Glad to read a happy ending  and Jak Jake is a good boy and came when called.

Hi Meg, you are so lucky to have gotten Jak Jak back like that. Fantastic news! What an awful feeling it would be as they fly away and you don't know if you will get them back.

Feathers.

You can use bungie cords, with hooks on the ends

I am so dumb :D I read that and thought you were being funny... you know, connect the budgies to it... duh :D Then I remembered there was some talk about an automatic door closer for the aviary [ka-ching] Bit slow, feathers...... :D

How frightening to realise one your precious birds was gone - I am so glad he came back to you - you obviously give him a loving home that he doesn't want to leave :)

great that you found her. So she really came when you called her- thats so cute!

:D Fantastic you got her back, your training her was well worth it! :)

ohh yes bungee cords billiant!

Thanks guys I taught her to come when i called because she used to sit p on the curtain rail and i got sick of climbing up there after her. Well worth the effort of teaching that tho. I may attempt the same with my future chicks!

:ausb: Forget about the other stuff, this is an important thing to teach ones' budgie. :)
