Hi Everyone.... it has been far too long since I updated. I'm not sure if anyone is still here that would remember me. But I thought I should update and let you know that Lucas still is doing very well. His MRI in January showed no signs of cancer. What a blessing! We are so thankful. Here is a picture from this weekend. Look at all the hair!!!

I hope all is well with you and your feathered friends.

Shawna

Thank you so much for the update. he is a very special boy on BBC and its great to see him looking so well :D

Oh Shawna! That is fantastic to see!

Getting those clear MRIs are the best feeling! I think I may have mentioned earlier in this thread that my husband (perhaps still fiance then??) had a brain tumour as a child and had surgery and radiotherapy which took care of it then.

Recently our journey began over when he was diagnosed with an atypical meningioma (a fast-growing tumour in the outer lining of the brain). But after surgery and the care of a fantastic neurosurgeon, he too had an MRI which showed no signs of tumour! We had our six week post-op follow-up visit yesterday, and whist there is always a chance of recurrence, for now, it was confirmed that he is cancer-free!

I can really appreciate the overwhelming sense of relief you feel at receiving such news! Praise God!

Thank you so much for the update and the handsome photo! He looks great... I often think of you, Lucas and your family and always keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Shawna, I would never forget you, Lucas looks so handsome, this news made my day!!! I am so happy for you, Lucas your family :budgiedance:

Hi Shawna.

I had no idea about all you had gone through. I came to the forums relatively recently and only get an occasional chance to stop by. I just read Lucas' story from your first post and I can't imagine what you have been through.

Your courage (all of you) is so inspiring. I totally agree with you about the wonderful work done by the Childrens' Hospitals, wherever they may be. My little one was in BC Children's Hospital when we lived in Vancouver I totally credit them with saving his life and my sanity! I still wipe away a tear whenever I think of how heartwrenching it is to have a child in hospital with a serious illness.

I will keep you all in my thoughts and send a secular prayer that your sweet boy has a long, happy and healthy life.

I was looking through some old pictures on my hard drive today and started looking at the hundreds of pics of my budgies. It brought back so many memories. I thought about this forum and how much I learned from here. I miss having budgies sooo. I have lost track of most of them as they were given away, sold, etc. by the people who took them after Lucas got sick. I still feel guilty not knowing what life held for them after I had to give them up. But when I was told my child had cancer it was a choice that had to be made.

Lucas is doing so fantastic. This June he celebrated his first year off-treatment and over 2 years since he was diagnosed. His July MRI shows no evidence of disease. He is my little miracle and I am so thankful. The pediatric cancer world can be very cruel and we know we are one of the lucky families.

He is enjoying summer very much. He loves to swim and spends lots of time in the pool. We also go on lots of road trips so I can shoot photos. Since I don't have my budgies to photograph anymore I am always looking for other things. It is a great stress reliever for me.

I can't believe Lucas will be entering grade 3 in the fall. He struggles in school - partly from missing so much time, possibly some learning disabilities (although we are still awaiting assessment for that). His teacher this year also has a son with a brain tumour so that is a blessing. She will understand some of Lucas' unique challenges.

I'm enjoying a month off work - a renewal leave that the employee group I work in gets after long service. I'm hoping we have lots of good weather. July was very wet....

I hope you are all well. I can't wait to peek at the photo gallery.

This picture was taken yesterday - my little fish.
