He doesnt have a name yet, so if you want to name him, and I like the name, go ahead..

He looks like an yellowface type 2 opaline spangle clearflight pied cock to me. If I am wrong please correct me...

Here here he is!!

He looks nice. I can't see the flight but I would wonder with the clearflight idea.

But what is worrying me is that it seems you have not quarantined!! New bird should be keep away from your flock for at least a month to check that the bird is not sick or carrying a disease that can spread to the rest of the flock. Even ones that look healthy can become ill due to the stress of the move.

:D Nerwen is absolutely correct, quarantine is needed! I am currently undergoing a 30 day quarantine peirod for a rescue. And sorry, which bird would your new budgie be? :greenb:

I agree completely about quarantining your new budgie, for his health and safety, and for your existing birds too. There is information about quarantine here:

I agree with Nerwn. I can't see the clearflight mutation on him. From what I can see with that photo though, he is definitely a YF2 Opaline spangle.

Your new bird is gorgeous and I 2nd the quarantine I would start it now and separate them immediately :). 30 days goes quick.

i knew you should quarantine too but the store said that they already did for a long time and that they can guarantee that the bird is healthy 100 percent.

And also when i got the bird he was in a cage alone and i saw him there one and a half weaks earlier. The store wasnt a large chain store.

my new bird is the one on the right.

No one can guarantee a bird is 100% healthy that is impossible, not to sound harsh but will they guarantee if that bird does get your existing birds sick that they will replace them (even though they really are not replaceable) the only guarantee is the bird you bought from them. PetsMart guarantees their birds but I would never bring one home and put them in straight away. It is not wise. All birds no matter what need to be quarantined from exisiting birds any avian vet will tell you in fact they advise 90 days not 30 :D. It is completely up to you but on these boards we have seen a whole flock wiped out from someone who thought oh this bird is okay. My poor Pretty died and he wasn't even 2 years old and our house is clean, non-toxic fumes, and a great enviroment these birds in the pet store are exposed to all sort of germs including any bird that they don't quarantine. If they give that type of advice my wonder is if they quarantine any new birds they get or do they just add them to the cage? (close to home subject - with Pretty's passing so I am sorry if I come over harsh) bad advice (not saying bad store)

Marlon, a bird store will tell you anything you want to hear. They receive shipments of birds all day long and put them immediately in the for sale cage with all the others. No quarantine...just a mix of birds from everywhere with all their little germs and diseases. In your excitement to have your new bird in the cage you may have forgotten this. Those of us that have experienced serious budgie illnesses and deaths due to our early experiences by NOT quarantining are well able to give you this kind of advice. Petshops and bird dealers tell big fibs about their birds. They sell older birds as babies and tell you they have had vet checks when they havent and so on. Please listen to good advice here and spare your birds any illness or problems. :D

Kaz you posted right after me I COMPLETELY 2nd those words - excellent words of advice. The thing is your bird is probably not sick but you never know. Bea purchased Oz at a pet store and within a week he was sick and to the vets good thing she quarantined from her other flock or the whole flock would have been on meds. Thank goodness Oz was okay after a round of medicine but you never know. okay I am coming off the lecturing perch I am sorry :D

I agree for sure about quaranteen... But you don't have a second cage do you??? I would invest in on man :)

YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!! :D I have been looking for yf spangles for AGES!!! Never found any!!! And here you come, find one, and it's also opaline! :D Marlon you are a lucky son of a goose!!! (Laughing out loud) Which shop was he at, do they normally have nice spangles like this guy?!?!?

Nathan, :)

Hi Marlon. I got three new exhibition birds from a top breeder in the state last week. This is a person that I know, I have seen his aviary and I know how he cares for his birds.

The very first thing I did was to put them into a quarantine cage. Now, I seriously doubt that they have a major health condition, but I can't guarantee that. I will not risk the health of my other 47 budgies by putting them in until I am quite satisfied that they are all okay. If they look good in 30 days time, they will go in. If I am even slightly suspicious that they may be even a little bit unwell, they stay out. It really is that simple.

You need a second cage to quarantine your birds. The reason we are all harping on about it so much is because we have people here who have lost a lot of birds when they decided against putting their new bird in quarantine. No one wants that to happen to you!

Ive been looking for spangles since a very very long time too!But they have one that looks just like this one in petsmart!!! Its a she but she looks exactly the same. I think it might even be buddys*his new name* sister even though they were both in diffrent petshop.

If you hurry they might still have her.

I am going to the vet today to make sure he is not sick, and then I will put buddy in another cage for 30 day. Thanks for helping me guys, now I know to always quarantine. Im buying another cage today.

I just LUV the second picture of Buddy. He's such a little cutie... looks like one of my violet opaline spangles, except for the yellow face part.

I am really pleased that you are going to quarantine, even after seeing the vet, as these little tykes are very good at hiding their diseases. The stress of being in a new environment will sometimes bring out some of their health issues a week or two into their quarantine time.

Excellent choice and I am glad you have decided to quarantine as well. A 2nd cage is always good to have in case 1 gets sick for a hospital cage as Pretty did. As for a vet make sure you are going to an avian vet they know best :D, a general exam here in the US consists of a gram stain, physical examination, a weight check, fecal test that costed me around 85.00 (I was tickled pink with that price to be honest). I was in fear mode when I took Merlin because Pretty had just passed so I had no clue. All vets and countries are different in cost. In our FAQ we have Avian Vet Look-up in case you need that too. Let us know how it everything goes tommorrow (I assume you meant that) since today is Sunday for us :D.

Hey Nathan. I have 2 spare yellwface spangle males for sale. If you want to come down to New Zealand, you are welcome to them. :)

Hiya Marlon, How did the vet check go? Who did you see?

oh, i completely fergot. It actually went great, the vet said his health was excellent and he set that he might have been bred to a show budgie since he is pretty big compared to the other budgies.

He suggested quarantine and Im in the middle of it. He said 1 month is long enough since he is in an optimal health status.

Your budgies are pretty :ausb: . I especially like the budgie in the last picture :oliveb:
