Look Who Came To Have A Look At My Breeders Today

My poor babies were really freaked out today.

I'm hoping he doesn't come back as he'd be able to eat my Mini Foxy. By the time hubby rushed home and the snake man got here he'd gone. I saw him slither away into the gutter...... from a distance ..... :)

I need a new aviary as the snake man said he'd be able to get into my cage for sure :) .... and he reckons into the breeding cages too :)

We didn't get to the meeting tonight Daz. I'm going to try bring all my budgies inside today and put them in the parrot cage :D

:) Far out !! He's a BIG one looking for a snack :) Hope he's gone for good. :)

He is pretty big - I was very scared because I had been just under that spot changing the budgies water less than an hour before :fear

I hope he doesn't come back. If he does the snake man said I should put on a garden glove or wrap a towel around my hand and catch him with that  Yeah - we'll leave that up to hubby then.

What kind of snake is that? Ugh! We only get little garter snakes here in Nova Scotia. I hate snakes.

He looks like a Python to me. I love snakes I think they are cute. Although, when they are trying to eat your budgies that's another matter.

I'm told it's a Carpet Python....... not too fond of them myself.

Apparently this size is fairly common........

Yeah it a Carpet Python. I hope he is gone or he gets removed soon!

 I can see why, I would be more worried about the snake than going to a meeting...

That is scary - not the snake itself -- but it's intentions. I hope that you can get rid of it.

WOW that is about what we get too gardner snakes that it is :

When I was 10 years old I had a pet carpet python around 8 feet in length. I took it to school once for "show and tell" ...in my schoolbag. That was one way to make the teacher scream and clear out a classroom in seconds flat  He looked a lot like yours. I saved him from a fate worse than death. The aboriginal police trackers were going to cook and eat him when they showed him to me...but I stood my ground and took him off them and kept him for many months as a pet. He kept the house mouse free

:ausb: Out of here, scared to death of snakes, good luck!

That’s a carpet python, as others have said, I live in the bush on the north coast & have this problem all the time, it looks like at least two metres, I have got used to them & catch them & relocate them at least 10 kilometres away, as they will home to a place. I don’t advise you trying it, if your at all scared of them, as it’s not pleasant, they are not dangerous in the fact that they are not venomous, it needs to be grabbed close behind the head, then near the tail, as if not they will quickly wrap themselves around some part of your body & it’s quite cold & scary even when your been doing it for 20 years of more. Then their last method of protection is to defecate over you, so like I say not pleasant & needs confidence. They need to be placed quickly in a feedbag or something similar tied & relocated to a bushy area.

I don’t have good news for you, in my experience once they have got the scent of birds, they don’t usually leave the area by their own accord. Luckily they don’t need to feed that often & get quite in the colder months, but will hang around & as they are nocturnal will come out at night & keep trying to get to the source of birds. Even though I have done every thing to prevent their access to my aviaries, eventually unless your protection is perfect, they will gain access.

Yeah, I reckon he was over 2 meters. It was really big. I'm hoping it doesn't come back - we haven't seen it again so either it's lying in wait or has given up :( If he does manage to get into the aviary and grab a bird he wont be able to get out. I've moved my birds and closed up the holes between the timber and the wire in the breeding cages (which I didn't think he could get into anyhow). So yeah, will be surprised if he got in now.

Anyhow, if we do catch him I'll be driving at least 50km any way to rehome him :(

There is a product out called shoo Snake it is 100% organic and you spray a "barrier" so to speak and they for some reason won't cross it .. Produce Stores sell them I don't know if it'll work for your problem with the pythons but I get Red bellys and browns and so far so good. Just have to re spray after it rains ...

:angel1:

Wow he is gorgeous, good luck relocating him

I have also heard lime or sump oil around the perimeter of house or area keeps snakes out, as long as they aren't already in that area hiding!!
