Posted March 21, 200718 yr I have a male lutino and a female albino. I dont know what either of the parents look like. I am useless with the genetic thing, will this pair have all ino babies, or something else, since i dont know the parents?
March 22, 200718 yr would there be any albinos, or just lutinos? and if daddy were split to blue, what would be the outcome? so i take it, it doesnt matter what moms parents were like? its it a sex linked thing?
March 22, 200718 yr if your female is an albino that would mean she is a blue based bird and your lutino is a yellow (green) based bird and would have to be split to the blue gene to get an ino since blue is recessive. If you knew the parents yes it would help you a bit. If they were two greens then there is probably more of chance he is not split but not necessary because there is the grandparents too and there would be a blue heritage in there that he aquired. If one of the parents were blue then he has more of a chance to be split for the gene. Make sense?
March 22, 200718 yr That makes perfect sense lovey! Thank you. I have no idea about the parents as they were both adopted. I guess I would have to try it and find out what the outcome will be! Thanks again lovey
March 22, 200718 yr just so you know just because you get all lutinos does not necessary mean that the dad is not split if you keep him with the same hen for a few clutches that would be a better way to determine if he is not split. Here is why you will have 50% lutino split for blue 50% ino outcome if he is split. If he is not split then all the off spring will be lutinos split for blue you could get ino's from the kids if paired correctly. You can see you may need to have a couple clutches with the same female to determine his genetics if you don't know his heritage and it is good to get to at least the grandparents. The further back the better just like humans you can have all brown eyes for 2 generations and then bam someone comes out with blue eyes . Edited March 22, 200718 yr by lovey
March 22, 200718 yr perfect, thanks lovey, i've printed out this info and will save it! first of they need to bond (Laughing out loud)
March 22, 200718 yr Even if he is not split for blue - he could be split for yellowface - which could mean some creamino babies.
