Posted March 21, 200718 yr Help!! I have noticed Harry (12 weeks old) eating his own poo!! :offtopic: Is that normal?? He's on a diet of seed mix mostly, carrots, brocolli and lettuce before I go to work and when I return. I heard that some animals may do that if they are deficient in something... Anyone's birds doing the same thing? I would appreciate any advice Thanks :dbb1: Jo-an
March 21, 200718 yr I am not sure what the reason would be...maybe just a young bird grazing for food on the floor of his cage...... spilled seeds there amongst the droppings. But maybe you could rig up a mesh floor for his cage until he breaks the habit ? :offtopic: Edited March 21, 200718 yr by Bubbles
March 21, 200718 yr One of my cockatiels eats poo all the time but she is just a dirty girl :offtopic: Could be a baby thing that he will grow out of.
March 21, 200718 yr It is normal for Budgies to eat there own droppings or that of other budgies. It is a way of getting the needed Potassium or Phosphorus they need. They don't eat a lot of it only a small percentage. This does cause consern to Aviaries with open tops. Wild bird droppings carry desease. This is why more breeders have closed or roofed flights.
