My First Show Results

Featured Replies

Posted

After having just arrived back from Melbourne I wasn't going to bench any birds this month as I had no time to prepare them, but I changed my mind last night after Karen convinced me she had a couple of spare cages so I ended up putting in 2 birds today (after hurriedly washing the DF Spangle last night as he was dirty).

This DF Spangle cock won 1st place in the novice category

While this Albino hen won 1st place albino and best novice bird in show

So very good results for a last minute decision and considering I left better birds at home.Would be interesting to see how well they would show given some preparation.

Feathers.

Feathers.....WOW!

That is just brilliant!

Congratulations!

You must be over the moon and...... you left better birds at home!!!!!

Mind you, those winners are just beautiful!!!!

Looks as if you have an exciting future in showing birds

:bluebudgie: :ausb:

Excellent result for Feathers first ever showing :bluebudgie:

:ausb: Good job Feathers, congratulations!

Way to go Feathers. Your two budgies look like winners to me too!!!

Congratulations! How exciting that must have been! I know you are just thrilled, and I am thrilled for you too!

Congratulations! Feathers, it's a great feeling isn't it. :ausb: and some very encouraging words from Robd. Now the best thing to do is to pester the guys in the open and intermediate divisions on showing you the correct way to prepare the birds. You will find that they will be more than willing to show you.

What a wonderful feeling to have accomplished a great placement with these budgies. So proud of you :glare: and your budgies. Congrats!

feathers and bubbles i predict are the champions of the future.

they never cease to amaze me with their knowledge.

even though they are at their beginings in exhibiting they show great foresight in the fact that they already know that preparation before showing can bring a bird up a few spots compared with no preparation.

i will be watching you 2 closely.

you are both an asset to our club.

Thanks Rob. The reason Karen and I get on so well is that we are so similar. When we get involved in things we don't usually do it half way. We both put our ears to the ground and listen. I spend as much time at the club meetings talking to experienced exhibitors as I do just listening to other converstations gleaning every tiny bit of info and tricks of the trade as I can. Karen is the same and in our drives and online chats we get plenty of time to pass on any tips the other may have missed.

Then we have all the amazing advice that Hath and Daz post here all the time (Thanks guys).

And I have learnt huge amounts from Karen herself, we will see just how much attention I have been paying when I start my breeding program. I will start with a batch of pet type birds that I wanted to breed up in size using PaulH's birds. Then around June/July I will begin breeding show birds that will hopefully be capable of holding their own in the novice section next year.

Very encouraging, I didn't expect any real result because of the lack of preparation, thanks to a lot of your info I knew how important that was. Thankfully both birds were quite well show cage trained before I got them. I have found most people that I have approached in the higher levels are quite willing to spend a little time in assisting us. For that I am extremely grateful.

Thanks all for your support. As Daz said, go BBC.

Feathers.

I agree with everything Feathers has said with regard to search for knowledge and gaining of knowledge through both BBC forum initially and through very helpful people such as Rob Dunstan, Daz and Hath in regard to show bird info and to people like Rainbow, Nerwen, and many others with regard to educating me in the world of genetics. We are finding some very wonderful people in our budgie clubs that are only too willing to pass on the knowledge to help us. Thats just wonderful. What a specialised and wonderful group of people they all are and continue to be. They go out of their way to give us newbies a boost in our endeavours.

Rob, lovely words from a really lovely guy....thanks so much. Hope we can live up to your expectations in the future. But as Feathers ( Aly ) has said, we don't do anything by halves, and we feed off each other and boost each other and it is a strong friendship that has common interests and goals.

I sense a communal breeding program coming up.

Thanks to Daz, I am learning what to look for in my chicks, and with delight just checked out a chick and discovered what directional feather is all about as I have seen it with my own eyes. Time will show something with these chicks. Here's just a couple of them at 4-6 weeks.
