My Aviary....start To Finish

Featured Replies

I think I have decided to cover in more of the external wall of the birdroom and just use one door to the flights not two. It limits what walls I can use inside the birdroom by having double doors to the flights. The double doors were originally due to the original plans for the flights going the other way. I dont need double doors now. So I will remove that extra door and sheet over that opening.

mmmm Can't see it in my mind ... Photos? :P

Yes...this is deliberate............additional security :D

Last night and today saw all remaining adult birds sorted out from the other aviary and breeding room into their new flight alongside the babies flight.

I was a little concerned for my one legged budgie PEGLEG PETE as he seemed to not know where he was meant to go, but it didnt take him long....he looked around...flew to the wire in the middle, then across to the horizontal beam behind the perches, then straight onto a top perch........no flies on that boy :D:o

Sorted more budgies out for the auction coming up, and others went for free to RIP, and the leftovers are being sold later over the next couple of days. None are being shipped. All done and dusted :D

:D IT'S FINISHED!!!!! :D :bliss: :star:

:o :D :):D

Well it was a pleasure to stand in Kazza's aviary. :D The birds are happy and there are some wonderful looking youngsters there. Kazza took me verge collecting. Got some dowel for perches. I'll never be the same after that experience, it is always something I avoided. My youngest Brodie does enough for the family. :o

I deeply appreciate the birds given to me and I will attempt to extract (nicely of course) all possible genetic material. Lets see where we end up. Kaz your a champ

Closed in that section today so I have only the one door going into the aviary and now I can finish the inner wall lining and move the breeding cages around in there and set it out better :)

Was cleaning day today in the flights.....do it twice a week if I can. I use a scraper on a handle for the floor. Easy since the concrete floor is so smooth. A few quicks scrapes with that, then I move the industrial vacuum cleaner in and vacuum up the seed debris and droppings that have been scraped into a pile.

Looks really good, plenty of room for them to exercise. I like your idea of putting rings on the perches for them to play with, haven't seen that before. I'll have to go through what's left of the kids baby toys and see if I can find something similar for my baby cage.

Thanks, that'll save me a few hours of looking in all the wrong places to find what mightn't even be in the house anymore ;)
