okay this is whats wrong,

My new budgie nibbles is turning out to be a BIG PROBLEM in a small pacage.

First of all HE BITES!!!!! :fear

Second he used to fly until my Mum decided she didnt like him firing missiles all over the room! So he thinks he can still fly, which means since he LOVES his NEW cage he tries to fly over to it, Which leads to, yup you gessed it, SPLAT!!! :)

And third he loves to chase Screach our weiro ( Nibbles LOVES to chew his tail) who is also a bit aggressive with his chomping ( I recon that since Screach & Nibbles shared Screaches cage at one point that Screach has tought Nibbles to become BITELES :D !!! they dont get on verry well . . .)

HELP MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEEEAAAAAAAASSSSEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you just had his wings clipped give him a week to figure out he can't fly it will happen and with this you may want to put him into a smaller room to get adjusted.

As for biting is he hand tamed? Does he step up? Biting is a can be a natural reaction to fear or simply he knows he has the upper hand so he knows he can control you this way.

I would seperate Nibbles and Screach because it doesn't sound like a good combo and let them play only during out time.

When he bites you, don't react to it, or else he will think it is a game and continue to bite you. Just ignore it and he will get bored. This will take a little while for him to realise that you won't respond, so just keep up with it. You could try tunneling him in your hands.

okay this is why Im despreate,

IVE TRIED ALL THAT!!!! :ausb:

Nibbles wing has been clipped for more tha four weeks, Screach and nibbles dont always seem to fight, sometimes It looks like theyre KISSING!! :(

Nibbles is female(Screach is male)! I just found out, and I make her tunnel every day or two. Time out dosent work you see because she LOVES her cage, she bites you when you touch it! :fear Even with all the toys gone she fights your closest finger, and if she cant get that one any more, she goes for anther!!! Like I said . . . HELP!!

It truly sounds like you need to to back to the basic of hand taming and be patience every budgie is different. Terri's site is excellent for taming www.budgietalk.com go there and read over the taming tips and start from the beginning.

What do you mean you make her tunnel everyday?

She sounds cage aggressive. It is not unheard of. I would take her out of the room her cage is housed in (to neutral territory) and start over with taming there. Secondly, Nibbles and Screach should not be housed together. Budgies are much more aggressive than cockatiels are, and since you say they don't get on well anyway I imagine they are both under some stress which could cause much of the aggression that is happening.

I agree there Rainbow I didn't know the cage mate was a tiel that right there could be the major issue you should not house 2 different species together.

I thought it was a different species at first Anne but then I disregarded should have went with my first thoughts :( anyways I do hope you separate them because both birds could feel threatened by each other and this is where the behavior could be stemming from. :)

sorry I didn't know you guys called werios coka-whatever.

Oh and Screech and Nibbles aren't in the same cage, Nibbles has her own cadge and Screech has one of his own too.

And what I mean by tunneling, thats where you stand up straight with your budgie on your belly. Put your hands over your budgie to make a tunnel as he/she climbs up your shirt. It helps to get the bird used to being grabbed, its also supposed to help the bird to stop bitting you.

Oh and by the way, I know this is kinda :P but my sister has got a baby budgie from the second batch from the other budgies ( Nibbles was in the first batch ). Its a small male, something looks wrong with its left eye. My Mum recons that its the bottom eye lid thats been ripped off some how.

But also Nibbles is getting on graet with him. Im a little conserned you know, Nibbles beeing a girl and the other a boy.

By the way shes named him Blue-bells!

well there is disputes about tunneling as with any subject that is sensitive ex. wing clipping.

Tunneling may work on 1 bird and not another it doesn't sound like it is working for this budgie and I would personally stop and start at the basic with the training tips givin at www.budgietalk.com. You have done tunneling it sounds like the bird is much more fearful and scared of your hands so the biting is normal and expected.

This may not be what you wanted to hear but that is what I see is complicating the training process too.

First how old is your little Nibbles? (seems like a perfect name choice ;) )

If she is still young you may be moving too fast for her to be settled with your hand and fingers. Sometimes to move forward you need to take a step back. Move slowly around her cage get her to step up when ever she starts to bite, as in keep her at for a 1 minute or so. First think to try with the biting is as the other said ignore it, but sometimes this doesn't help either.

You have a better chance with her wings clipped to keep her in place to do training, since she can't fly high up and away from her.

As to your sisters bird keep them apart from each other as you try to train. There shouldn't be an issue with breeding unless your hen finds something she sees as a nest site. But if you watch closely you can remove something like that.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks guys,

but first . . . Nibbles is not old enough to mate,

second, Nibbles HAS got her wings clipped,

third, this is my little sister and I would like you to make her feel VERY WELCOME :( shes new here and is only just learning to take care of budgies ( I have to take care of all the other birds :D ) So as I said treat her nicely!

Nibbles is very good ( in health not in training )

MY SISTER CAN'T LOG ON! oh well I'll tell her to contact administrator.

Hey, I'm going to see if I can send you guys a photo!

If you've seen anyother posts by me they don't have photos of Nibbles so I'm sure you'll love to see how she looks! It may answer some questions. :)
