March 10, 200718 yr Author Blinkie's going to the vets this afternoon. I spoke to another vet at the clinic and he said that Blinkie should probably get an injection to start him on treatment. He said that he'd rather i talk to the vet i saw with Oz about treating everyone but i'll talk to him again once i'm there. I'm kinda worried about Blinkie getting an injection, he's never had one and i'm scared it'll stress him too much and he'll die or something.
March 10, 200718 yr l'm hoping everything will turn out okay for you and your birds . l'm really sorry that you are going through all this , l'm still thinking of you and your flock .
March 10, 200718 yr Don't worry Bea, Blinkie can handle anything, he is the prettiest and coolest budgie in the universe. Glad something is finally happening before Monday. :ausb:
March 10, 200718 yr http://www.birdsnways.com/articles/psittico.htm http://www.avianweb.com/psittacosis.html  Bea, don't freak out about Blinkie. He will take the injection like a champ, I'm sure. Blinks is in good shape now, so I can't see 2 more days without meds moving him into a huge decline. You don't even know if he has it yet. I know you want to fix it now, but there is a possibility that his immune system has been able to keep the virus from taking hold in him. After 2 or 3 days of meds, I read that Ozzie won't be actively shedding the virus anymore. The problem is that the disease is airborne transmissible, so any poop dust from Ozzie could be anywhere in your room to be stirred up. Since you can't get meds until Monday, I would go through their room and clean, clean, clean as best you can without stirring up dust. Wipe down any woodwork around the doors, baseboards, etc. of their room. Damp mop the floor if there is no carpet. Wipe down the walls with a damp washcloth. If there is carpet, vacuum it several times over the weekend. If you have blinds over the windows, wipe them down also. Wipe down the windows. Bookshelves, desks, nightstands, everything! I don't know if it will help any, but I think any activity on your part right now will help your frame of mind until you can get meds for all the birds.  ((huge hugs to you, Bea, you are handling this better than most people would, even at twice your age. You really, really deserve something for the responsibility you are showing in caring for your babies. I wish I could be there to help you in some way.)) Edited March 10, 200718 yr by Rainbow
March 10, 200718 yr Author Blinkie was not at all impressed by that injection. I might talk to the vet about continuing Blinkie's treatment with the in-water meds rather than the needle cause he seems a lot more stressed by it than Ozzie. I still wasn't able to get treatment for everybody. The vet i saw really wants me to talk to the avian vet about it as he was worried about causing more harm than good. I'll call on Monday and see if i can pick up some meds then. In the car on the way home Blinkie climbed up to where my shoulder was resting against his cage and snuggled up against me. He was such a snuggly bub, just wanted his mummy.
March 10, 200718 yr Brave Blinkie! Glad you got him treated and hope that the rest of the flock are okay.
March 10, 200718 yr Author Thanks everyone. Blinkie seems totally over the needle today. Ozzie seems a bit livelier too. Lets hope the scales start to go up for both of them soon!
March 11, 200718 yr Thanks everyone. Blinkie seems totally over the needle today. Ozzie seems a bit livelier too. Lets hope the scales start to go up for both of them soon! Â Great news Bea!
March 14, 200718 yr Author Oz is down to 36g now, lower than he's ever been since i got him. But, he's eating, chirping, playing, pooping so it is a mystery! Some breathing problems that the vet noticed last week have improved tonight, we went for our one week check up. The vet was as confused as i was about the weight loss! We waited for 30mins for Oz to do a poop for the vet to check but he wouldn't perform! The vet found one in the water dish and checked that, but didn't find anything especially wrong. I've been given a couple of slides and i've been told to make some poop smears when i get the chance so he can check a couple more. I told him how Blinkie stressed at the needle and he said i should just keep using the water meds, for Ozzie too. He decided not to give Oz another injection cause he didn't want him to be in any pain or stress. Ordinarily i would have to go back next week but he said that because i'm good with weighing them and monitoring their health i could just ring next week, or bring Oz in if his weight keeps dropping. If it does i think the vet was going to look at some more specific meds rather than the more general psittavet powder the birds are on at the moment. Fingers crossed that my little Mozzie starts stacking those grams back on soon!! Â Better news for Stinkie Blinkie. I weighed him this morning and his weight appears to be creeping back up which is fantastic! Not to mention he's been eating and....well.....let's just say he's enjoying having the cage to himself.....gives him some privacy for certain....male behaviours.
March 14, 200718 yr Im glad he is doing okay but the weight loss is definitely a mystery unless he is pining for his Blinkie hehe.
March 14, 200718 yr awww shucks Bea, I'm sorry I haven't read most of the rest of the topic. sorry to hear that Blinkie had to go through the injection. sounds like he's getting so much better already. Hugs to little Ozzie, I'm sure he'll be packing on the weight in no time again.... You're doing a great job with little Ozzie and Blinkie..... {{{hugs}}}
March 15, 200718 yr Weight loss still a mystery but it sounds like they are both doing really well, great news!
