Posted February 10, 200718 yr Well I have my 4 babies they are 5 weeks old and can all fly. My problem is they are a bit afraid of me was wondering what I can do to make them less afraid. They dont bite when I take them out they just climb straight into my hair and hide there. Should I have them out as a group, I let the mum and dad raise them. I just worry cause they pant while of got them out and one trembles when I am holding it dont want to stress them.
February 10, 200718 yr Kerrie, just keep handling them so that they gain confidence. The more you work with them the better they will get. Feathers.
February 10, 200718 yr Right now I think if you work with each one individually, it will not take long before they are used to being handled. I would let them all out at the same time onlywith conditions. 1st, you need a lot of free time before you do it. Maybe hours. I say this because once they get out as a flock, they will enjoy flying. And if you cannot control them right now with the 'step up' command (which you can't) it will take quite some time for you to get them all back in the cage without resorting to chasing them and making them more afraid of you than they already are. Because once you get one to step on your finger, I would almost guarantee as soon as you take that first step in any direction, they will fly right off. Normally babies at that age are very trainable and will trust you much easier than a bird even a few months older. Start off with the usuals, i.e. sit by the cage, talk to them, hand feed them millet, etc. I don't think you should have too much trouble. Have fun!
February 10, 200718 yr Author Well thats good I will just take it slow and easy just one of them is so skittish I was worried I might do more damage then good I can just feel her/him trembling. The others are very interested in hiding in my hair. When I got my first budgie at their age she was just so laid back and accomadating we bought her from a backyard sale for $5 she was the best bird ever except that her favourite thing to be was bite my nostril which really hurt she used to like to hear me squeal, little bugger :(Laughing out loud): Thanks Feathers and Rainbow
