I brought a very bright yellow lutino on Wednesday. At first I thought it was a female, but have decided that it must be a male.

Its cere is pink and smooth, and he looks slightly larger then the budgies that I already have...but not as big as an English.

So am I right in thinking that this bird is a male?

size doesn't give an idea to gender. In frogs it is the females that are larger.

The size with budgies depend greatly on the what the breeder is breeding for, if they are a show breeder they will produce larger birds than a person their feathered friends.

If the cere is pink and smooth as you say then yes I would think male. Ino males keep the baby pink cere all their life.

Here is a picture of Pretty's cere he is a recessive pied the rule follows on them for the pink smooth cere for male. Pretty is a male if it looks similar to this cere you most likely have a male.

That is great news. Now I know what to look for when I go to the auction.

Later this week, I am going to get my aviary, and see what I need to do (repair wise) and if it is all okay, then I will add them to it. I am really looking forward to getting it up and running, and having the birds all together!

Goodluck with everything Julie, sounds like it will be a great aviare.
