Hi. We just got a new budgie, Calico. She looks skyblue from the descriptions but her tail has these translucent green colours and also on her wings. What kind is she? Oh- she has just started her first moult so 'scuse her spiky head :D

Hi and welcome to the forums. The picture isn't working.

Can you see her now?

Yeah. She looks like sky blue. I think some blues have green tails sometimes.

Yep it is normal she would be a skyblue and is a cutie :(

Welcome.

I have a few that have a greenish hue to the tails as well. I can't remember now if it was a sign of the violet gene or something else. But a connection to the violet gene is what is sticking in my head.

on a green bird if they have a tinge of violet on their tails and feet I don't think in a blue bird it means anything. Pretty has a nice teal tail and very dark :D...but maybe you are on to something but I haven't read that anywhere.

I just wish I could recall where I got the info from. I know it's connected to a picture I posted up of all the babies from one of Tootie's and Marine's clutch but it's a very vague memory.

you know you will come across it when you least expect it  then you can share with us too :(

:( It is bugging me, but I did find the picture I was talking about in my photobucket.

Berry is on the left and has a teal tail, Echo is next to her with a blue one and Scuttle is second on the right with again a teal tail. All are from the same clutch and parents.

I see it you would think it would do with a yellow factor because blue and yellow make green. It is like a yellow tailed (Laughing out loud) (but green) vs a yellow face. Pretty's isn't that noticeable but he does have teal feather tails.

Well, my little opaline violet baby has teal on her primary wing feathers, if that helps. ;)

It is entirely possible she is a violet skyblue.........

based on this article

QUOTE............"The best guide to distinguishing Violet Skyblues from Cobalts are the tail and flight feathers. Cobalt tails are a solid navy blue. The darker the Cobalt body colour, the deeper the blue of the tail but even the palest Normal Cobalts have navy blue tails. In Violet Skyblues the tail feathers are turquoise at the quill end darkening to blue toward the tip. The depth of turquoise in the tail varies with the depth of body colour. The difference we see in the tails can also be seen in the flight feathers. The colour in the flight feathers of Cobalts is dark blue. In Violet Skyblues there is a glossier turquoise iridescence like that seen in Skyblues but slightly darker that the Skyblue. In general Violet Skyblues have a brighter appearance than Cobalts." Thank you Karen that was what I read before ;)

Nyo's Scuttle has the yellowface but the other with the teal tail, Berry, has a white face.

But since into their adult feathers both of their tails are more blue than teal.

I knew when you were talking about it, that I had seen it written somewhere too, so I did a search. It just happened to be on one of my favourite web pages about violets. ;)

very good Karen ;) excellent information too keep stashed in my brain :D and to keep that article.

Funny thing is though. My chicky can't be a violet sky blue. Her mum is a mauve. She has black tail feathers, with spots of white on them (is that something to do with being opaline?) However her sibling appears sky blue, which has me baffled as like I said her mum is a mauve. Maybe it is just a really light cobalt???????

Who are we talking about now, Sailorwolf ?

I'm lost too. Wondering if this is a hiccup in the forums putting a posting in the wrong topic.

Sorry I was reffering to my violet chicky. :P

I thought Karen was referring to my chicky too

I got confused
