Could be a cinnamon. I would absolutely love a recessive pied. ooooo. :)

Oooh yes, Phoebe. I have 3 babies who are now 8 weeks old from Saffron and Izzy's first clutch. 2 babies who are 2 and a half weeks old from Isis and Arkady and 2 babies each 1 day old fostered to Isis and Arkady from Saffron and Izzy's 2nd clutch. Gave one of the first babies to my brother, so now I have 6 babies total. :P

hows the babys doing sailorwolf, your babies are about the same age as mine , hatched on 10th and 12th feb, i should have 1 hatch today.she had 6 eggs in total, but has moved 2 out i have put them back a few times but she keeps moving them, sometimes she will put 1 or 2 back.. maybe she just rotating them, leaving room for the bubs that are there now.?

any pics of your babys, i have some of mine on another thread..

Well baby 5 hatched yesterday. Unfortunately, because their were 5 other babies in the nest box inclusding 2 big bumba 3 week olds he got missed out at feeding times. So I had to hand feed him. I managed to give him two handfeed, but when I cam back to do my third one, I found him dead. He had just died as he was still warm andnext to the older babies, but he was stiff and lifeless. At least he got to enjoy some warm milk before he left. I was looking at him and he appeared to have bubbles in his intestines. So it could have been congenital.

ohh thats sad sorry for your loss rip little one... i lost a baby today too, it hatched but was just so tiny smaller than the others. he only lived for about 2 hours, i wonder if this heat had anythingt o do with it, its about 38 deg here today.? im worried for the other bubs..

It could be anything. Sometimes they get squashed by the other bubs, sometimes they die from exhaustion, breaking out of the shell.

I am very sorry you lost this little one Sailorwolf. It is so very sad at any time a tiny being loses its fight for life, despite all we try to do for them. :(

yes it is sad... not much you can do for the tiny lost babies :angel1:

Another one hatched today. Same scenario. It is still alive. I have to feed it again in 2 hours.

I'm feeding it warm milk for now. That I mix up from dried stuff, so that it is thick, but thin enough for the baby to drink it.

:) Good luck to you Sailor Wolf, hope the bub makes it. :greenb: Is milk okay for them?

Sorry to hear you are having to talk over for the mum :D

Fingers crossed this one makes it for you.

Sad news unfortunately.

The little baby was taking food so well. I was feeding him every three hours. And I set the alarm clock to wake me up every 3 hours. Then at 6 am when I went to feed him, I opened up the nest box and found him at the other end away from the other babies. I picked him up and he was cold. :D I was sure he was dead. Anyway I took him out and looked at him, then his mouth started moving! I couldn't believe it. The baby was still alive and it was stone cold. So I breathed on him to make him warm. It warmed him up. He was so cold though that my breath created condensation on his skin.

Any way as soon as he was warm, I put him under the other chickies as I went and prepared his dinner, making sure it was nice and warm. I managed to feed him okay. But soon his breathing became quite laboured and I noticed that his sternum was sticking out. In that space of 3 hours he had used up all his reserves to try and keep warm that when I came back he had almost no muscle left. Then He started to throw his little head back and stretched out. And I watched him take his final breath. He passed away in my hands. :D

I was so sad and annoyed. Because if he hadn't been kicked out of the warmth, by whoever, his mum, or the other chicks he would still be alive. :)

Poor little fella. Rest in peace :angel1:

Well. The thre little babies are turning out great! They are 3 and a half weeks old and already coming out of the nest. The purple eyed baby has turned out to be a violet, opaline, yellowface type 2, cinnamon spangle!!!! Then there is the yellowface type 2, cobalt, opaline spangle. :P And cobalt, full body colour greywing spangle.!!! They are so gorgeous. I wish I had a camera to show you them all.
