Posted February 6, 200718 yr My hen Jaz, doesnt seem to be herself today. Normally she is active like the rest of my flock, but today, she is all fluffed up and sitting quietly in the cage. Should I be overly concerned with this kind of behaviour? Should I take her out and give her some one on one attention? I dont want to loose her, as she is my pastel and tame. (The rest of my birds arent tame). Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
February 6, 200718 yr Fluffing up and sleepiness/lack of energy are symptoms of a sick bird. I would take her to see an avian vet to be on the safe side.
February 6, 200718 yr Author umm, a big change when she is brought upstairs and out of the cage...she seem to be happy sitting upon my shoulder...a much happier bird...
February 6, 200718 yr Just keep an eye on her and keep her somewhere warm. Bt I would suggest taking her to a vet.
February 6, 200718 yr I agree, I would suggest taking her to the avian vet because they can go down hill quickly. Keep us update
February 7, 200718 yr Author Well she is all fine and back to normal today. I didnt take her to the vet, and once she was out of the cage and had some one on one, she was right as rain. She has since been going in and out of her nesting box, so hopefully she is getting it ready for laying and nesting.
February 8, 200718 yr Julie, You said before, I think, that Jazz came with eggs when you got her and they didnt work out. Then she was feeling a bit off colour, and now she is preparing a nesting box again. I was just wondering how many clutches she has tried to raise in succession....prior to you getting her and now. If she has been doing this one clutch after the other, even if they werent successful, she may be low in calcium and they may account for her health issues or lack of breeding condition. Two clutches in a row is enough then a much needed break. Perhaps you could inquire of where you bought her how many clutches or babies she has had and see if she may need a break and nesting box removed for a little holiday ? Getting her back to good health and condition might be best for awhile. Just a thought :oliveb: Edited February 8, 200718 yr by Bubbles
February 8, 200718 yr :oliveb: Sounds like an excellent idea to me, you want her in the best of health (period) but especially before she gets into her breeding mode. :ygbudgie:
