February 10, 200718 yr Wow - getting to the exciting stage Feathers. So how many will be in there in total? And how many cages will be inside the house? Are you going to bolt it to the concrete slab or does it just sit on top of the floor...?

February 11, 200718 yr Author Wow - getting to the exciting stage Feathers. So how many will be in there in total? And how many cages will be inside the house? Are you going to bolt it to the concrete slab or does it just sit on top of the floor...? Hiya Turbs. I am situated in Perth's foothills area, so we get hugely gusty easterlies overnight, that race in from the outback. It will be very securely bolted down. It is under my patio and has a layer of shadecloth protecting it as well, but I don't want to take the chance of it shifting. I am sealing the bottom with a builders 'glue' too. I have 24 birds that will go into the aviary, some when they finish their quarantine. That will free up my biggest cage for our two special kids, Pascale and Chik'n. They love the extra attention and cuddles that they get. AWWW if you want one I will make one for you Do you have a name yet? [claps hands and jumps up and down] I would be soo honoured to have a name plate created by you. You are so talented. I will pm you. The cage is now in position and looks so good, especially now the plastic has been taken off the front. Now it just needs a fitout, ready for my budgies to go in. The count down is on to BBD (Big Budgie Day).
February 12, 200718 yr Author Nearly there.Got so much done today. This is the aviary in position ready to get started. This is the bamboo lattice that we found to use as perches in the aviary. We split it in half to put 2 up More toys go in Some Peppermint leaves ready to greet the budgies One of the last jobs - putting mesh in this window to separate the end section from the main aviary section. A few more toys and rope perches left to do. With any luck the birds should be in tomorrow night or Wednesday. :bluebudgie: Feathers Edited February 12, 200718 yr by feathers

February 13, 200718 yr Author Thanks all. It has been really hard, but worth it. I wouldn't have it at all, if not for Karen and Ken. It was Karen who found the ad for me. Then a lovely lady who preferred to sell it to me even though she had never met me. It turns out that she understands how tough it is in a disabled world, as her son is mentally disabled. While we were picking it up one of my former carers turned up to pick up her son for the night (small world). Then I had the assistance of Karen and Ken and a host of other helpful souls to get it home and up my driveway. I really as very lucky to have such caring, giving people in my life. I had dinner at next to the aviary last night and I can see that many meals will be spent there surrounded by birdsong. Feathers.
February 13, 200718 yr Author Here are the final photos before BBD (Big Budgie Day), when all the birds not in quarantine go into the aviary When my son gets home the final job will be done - meshing the end section window. Yipee! Feathers.
February 13, 200718 yr looking good feathers.Love the skipping rope for a perch, thats a great idea.(hope it is a skipping rope). The budgies will have lots of fun in there.
February 13, 200718 yr Author ...........and then the birds go in !! First thing tomorrow morning is BBD Can't wait. I figured it was better than putting them in just before bed time. looking good feathers.Love the skipping rope for a perch, thats a great idea.(hope it is a skipping rope). The budgies will have lots of fun in there. It sure is a skipping rope. There are 2 of them in there. The second one is close to the front and is in a V shape. A lot of the stuff we got was from a discount store and $2 stores. The bamboo lattice was the most expensive item, at $5.00. Most of the small toys, dog toys and skipping ropes were $2.00 each. Karen, I found the perfect size containers to use to stop budgies going in to the dispensers. I have put 2 slits in the top and used a long cable tie so that it can be lifted for filling. I have lots of these containers at home if you want some. 18 hours to go before budgie infiltration Feathers.

Silly budgies end up going in through the top and if a youngster, they can't get out again. Big day tomorrow ....and it is best to move budgies in the morning, like you thought, so they have all day to get used to a new space.
February 13, 200718 yr Author I reacon your a legend Aly for doing all that work.....also where did you get the green feeders and were they expensive Thanks, I am suffering for it tonight... my hands haven't been this sore for a long time, but it is for the budgies I got the feeder from a pet store in Maddington, but I have seen them in Cannington too. I think most big pet stores would have them. The water dispenser was about $14.00 and the food dispenser about $8.50. I have no idea why the water one was so much more expensive. Looks great I can't wait to see the happy budgies inside !!! I'll be getting pics I hope they enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed doing it for them. Feel free to steal the skipping rope idea, Nerwen. A lot of the great ideas came from my 14 year old daughter, Jacquie. She would pick up all sorts of things and say "What about this?" She found the bamboo lattice. Feathers.
February 13, 200718 yr Hi Feathers - Wow - it looks so beautiful and such a lot of innovation in all your ideas. I'm sitting here typing on my laptop and Turbs just flew onto my vegemite muffin and yes is now all covered in vegie (at least on her feet).... Now all you need is a 24/7 budgie cam, so that we can all look at how your babies are doing... Actually, I've thought of doing this, as a way to keep check on my babies when I'm out...
February 13, 200718 yr looks great i'm sure they will enjoy their new home. we only just built our small avairy and i already want a bigger one.
February 13, 200718 yr Awesome. I can't wait to see BBD photos. You MUST take some. It'll be fun decorating the avairy with branches later too. I think I need to go to the $2 dollar shop more often.
February 15, 200718 yr Author Hi all, Well yesterday was BBD Sorry it has taken me so long to put up photos Sometimes I forget I am not normal when I get excited about things. Obviously getting the aviary together has been one of those things. Yesterday I was in such bad condition my 14 yr old dressed me and I had to stop on the way to hydro to get my 18 yr old to put up my hair at her workplace So Jacquie and Nathan put the budgies in for me around 4pm (the sun doesn't go down until around 8 - 9pm at the moment so they had plenty of time to look about). For some reason they put in the budgies from one of my quarantine cages, so I had to take them out again, but as they were from PaulH I didn't panic about it. Sailor, Karen has some natural branches for me, so they will go in very soon. Anyway, here are the photos, with no commentary as it hurts to type right now Hope you like them, Feathers.
February 15, 200718 yr Brilliant set up feathers. Hope your poor hands and body are feeling better soon. You need a nice couch outside so that you can lie comfortably and watch them. Love the green budgies. Really nice looking lot. Are they on pellets?
February 15, 200718 yr Congratulation feathers the budgies all look very happy and contented in their new home. Hope you feel better soon so you can enjoy all your hard work. I might steel the rope idea aswell and I love the idea of the containers over the water and seed containers. When I had finches they nested in the seed container, this would have prevented that. Looks like you just about have all the colours of the rainbow in the aviary. Love the photos they were absolutely beautiful.
February 15, 200718 yr Looks fantastic Aly. Pat yourself on the back, you have done a tremendous job....the birds look so happy in their new space. I'll bet you have noticed how much more lively they are in there too ...I will bring you some branches on Sunday before we go to our budgie club meeting.
