Posted February 3, 200718 yr Yay! I am now the proud owner of a new, used, aviary. I didn't think to get a photo at the time, so you shall all have to wait until I get it home. Yesterday Bubbles phoned through a couple of ads in a local trading paper, the first guy wasn't home and the second lady said she still had it. I explained that I was in a wheelchair and would have to organise a way to get there to look at it. So yesterday afternoon (after waiting all morning for a delivery that didn't show) I headed out in over 40 degree temps (it was 106 F) to catch a bus that was normally accessible. The first one came along, and it was an old bus, so I waited, for 1 hour in the sun. The next bus came along - same thing. Now I had phoned her after each bus, firstly to say the bus was no good, and the second time to tell her the same thing, but that I would try again in the morning. I phoned Bubbles fairly dejected, she said "If it's meant to be you'll get it". "Wow", I thought, "She's right" So I stopped worrying about it. So we headed out this morning and along the way I was trying to call to see if she was home. It kept going to message bank but I headed her way anyway, believing "If it's meant to be she will be home". When I got there she was delighted to see me. She had other callers asking about the aviary but she told them all that they wouldn't be able to see the aviary until after 2pm - she wanted me to see it first. It's perfect! And now it's mine. It is big enough that I could have 3 seperate sections in it, if I so wished. It currently has 2 and has a double safety door. I'm so happy. Whilst waiting for the bus yeaterday I bought a heap of new toys for my new aviary I didn't own yet and now I do It should be coming home to me on Tuesday evening So, thanks Karen..... It was meant to be Feathers. Edited February 15, 200718 yr by feathers
February 3, 200718 yr If you need a hand Tuesday, buddy. Just let me know and I have an opaline blue boy for your new aviary too. Edited February 3, 200718 yr by Bubbles
February 3, 200718 yr Congratulations. I feel for you guys with all that heat. I don't recall it ever being in the 40s here. High 30s and that is unbearable. Does everyone have air conditioning in their homes? AGH! Can't wait for pics of your setup.
February 3, 200718 yr Congrats Feathers, it was meant to be! And you already have a budgie courtesy of Bubbles! Like Shawna, I feel for you in the heat, when it got to the low 30's here last summer I thought I would collapse. Keep cool! :greenb:
February 3, 200718 yr Author If you need a hand Tuesday, buddy. Just let me know and I have an opaline blue boy for your new aviary too. Thanks Karen, will do. In all the excitement I forgot all about the blue boy. Yay, 21 budgies.. I must remember to change my profile. I have asked a friend of my brother (because my brother works up north on a mine) if he could help me and that was the best day for him. Now I just need to organise the hire of a car trailer, as it is too big for a normal one..... Pheobe and Shawna, you get used to the heat. Yesterday was awful due more to the humidity than the heat. I have an air-con in my lounge and one in my room. There would be more houses without air conditioning than with it probably. The only reason I got mine was because extremes in temperature affects my pain syndrome too much. Feathers. Edited February 3, 200718 yr by feathers
February 3, 200718 yr Sounds excellent feathers. How does the aviary door and general access go with your wheelchair? Look forward to seeing pictures of the new aviary down the track. Sounds like it's been really hot in Perth at the moment. I'm in BNE and it's really humid over here at the moment, but nowhere near the 40s. I remember the heat in Perth being like really hot dry winds. By The Way was going to mention that you can hire small and big car trailers from Bunnings pretty cheap - if you need to buy some stuff to fit it out from Bunnings, often hire is then also free for a couple of hours from recollection... Bubbles is indeed such a great friend offering to help....
February 4, 200718 yr I will collect up some great branches for you ready for your aviary. We got some great ones yesterday for our quarantine area, so I'll get some more for you. Let me know if you need me to look out for the feeders that swivel and access from outside aviary for you
February 4, 200718 yr Author How does the aviary door and general access go with your wheelchair? I couldn't access it in my chair because you walk in forward, through a door, into a very small section, then turn left or right to open a door and go in. I can hobble on my heels a little, it just hurts lots. I am on the lookout for the bottom half of a computer chair (we have council pickup happening here at the moment and everyone puts out their old bits and pieces they don't need). If I don't find one I will buy a $30.00 one I saw yesterday in a department store. It can remain in the aviary all the time, covered in plastic By The Way was going to mention that you can hire small and big car trailers from Bunnings pretty cheap - if you need to buy some stuff to fit it out from Bunnings, often hire is then also free for a couple of hours from recollection... Thanks for that, Sarah. I looked them up online yesterday and I have been racking my brain all night to think what we might need that required the use of a large trailer. They are free for 2 hours then I will phone and find out how much they cost to hire. Bubbles is indeed such a great friend offering to help.... Well and truly, she and Ken have gone above and beyond their call of duty for me a couple of times. YAY feathers It sounds like a great aviary. Will be waiting pictures They will be coming. Can't wait to get it. I will collect up some great branches for you ready for your aviary. We got some great ones yesterday for our quarantine area, so I'll get some more for you. Let me know if you need me to look out for the feeders that swivel and access from outside aviary for you Thank you very much, Karen. I was thinking I just might pinch back some of that cot we found.. I could use it now If you come across the feeders, great, but don't go out of your way to look, please Karen. I will check the place around the corner from me tomorrow. Fantastic idea to get those ones. A very excited Feathers. Edited February 4, 200718 yr by feathers
February 4, 200718 yr I have that wheelie office chair we have here spare. You can have it. I dont use it. Will break down the cot for dowels today for you and get you some good branches down the road. I will go to the bird place and photograph the swivel feeders for you so you can see what I mean ..... cheers kaz

February 4, 200718 yr Feathers (Aly) is a lovely girl and we have become friends. Its what you do for friends
February 4, 200718 yr Author Oooh I can't wait to see this avairy Feathers! How many birdies are you putting in it? Well, 17 to start with. 3 are currently quarantined and I have yet to recieve 1 from Karen Feathers (Aly) is a lovely girl and we have become friends. Its what you do for friends
February 5, 200718 yr congrats on the new aviary!! Oh hey girl, you're not far behind on the budgies count to me!! you'd pass me soon!! (Laughing out loud)... I've got 25 (one still waiting to come home from Kaz's place) at the moment, and you have 21..
February 6, 200718 yr Author Oooh. You're picking it up today aren't you? Yay. Be sure to get some photos. Not any more The guy I asked can't do it today, he can do it Thursday but the trailer hire place closes too early. Back to square 1. Feathers.
February 6, 200718 yr If you can find 3-4 strong lads or someone, we can use our car for the trailer, but Ken cant lift anything due to his recent knee op. See what you can come up with your end re helpful muscles and we can help with trailer collection and return.
February 6, 200718 yr It didn't work out for today You guys gotta know how accomplished and strong Aly is too. She deserves my admiration for all that she acchieves, sheer grit and determination.....and a terrific girl into the bargain if we can help we will. It just won't come together today.
February 6, 200718 yr Author you know, if I don't get it organised to pick up on Thursday I might just have to go and visit it I have all these wonderful plans for it and I'm itching to get started. I know, I know.... I am a bit of a 'sad case' Can you imagine it. "Hello, Win, haven't got anyone organised to pick up the aviary yet, but can I come and sit with it for a while?" Feathers.
