Posted February 1, 200718 yr I'm not sure where to post this, so please move it, if necessary. Could you tell me Jupiter's qualities and defects? Is he actually a showing budgie? (I was told so, but he lost his ring and I can't find his breeder) He is a bit fat in these photos, but he's on a diet now Thanks a lot
February 1, 200718 yr Hi Zebra. Just going off these photos. Hath will have a better say than me. Jupiter is a strong bird. Good Shoulders. Mask is short which causes the spots to be irregular. Width of face isn't there and the frontal or blow hasn't fully developed. In the second Photo he is trying to blow. The Flecking on the head will go against him. Back line isn't too bad in the first photo. Tail isn't drooped. How old is he?
February 1, 200718 yr Author Thanks Daz, I have no idea how old he is. I've got him for about 5 months. That's why I was looking for his breeder, but Jupiter is from a pet shop and they didn't want to help me. I think he had red ring.
February 1, 200718 yr Definitely a show bird. With birds like this it is possible they come from a champion family but just don't make the grade (because of flecking etc). He still has the same good bloodlines in him though. Feathers.
February 1, 200718 yr Author Thanks There had to be a reason for the breeder to put him in a pet shop. He probably wasn't good enough for showing. But he is still gorgeous I wouldn't show him anyway, I just liked him Mainly for the head spots
February 1, 200718 yr from the first picture the first thing you notice is the width of face and lack of spots the irregular spotscould just be the way the spots are resting but they do look small as daz said the frontal dosent sweep out and the back skull is not rounded and full the wings dont look rite on the first picture but its hard to tell good shoulders as daz said but he looses it around the perch area and of course the flecking will lose points as said its a definate show bird just one that fails to fulfill on the bench but most of the great birds have been bred from birds along these lines as you cant buy the better ones
February 1, 200718 yr Hath brings up some great points. One subject that Hath and I haven't gone into is the difference between a stock bird and a show bird. This birds has some good features that can be past onto the off spring if paired correctly to a suitable hen. Stock birds aren't good on the bench but a lot of show birds aren't good to breed with. Hath we should do a post on stock birds? Edited February 1, 200718 yr by Daz
February 2, 200718 yr That would be great, as that is what I was getting at, he has the same great bloodlines and could be a brother or son to a champion bird.
