Posted January 30, 200718 yr Hi Does thunder kill chicks in the egg or is it a old wives tale?? MAdeline
January 31, 200718 yr Oh I would think that would be an old wives tale, but lets see what others think.
January 31, 200718 yr It would have to be an old wives tale, but if you think about it....thunder might scare a hen off a nest or cause the hen to scurry about in the box and addle her eggs. Thus creating a situation where the eggs don't hatch....i.e dead in shell chicks. Maybe thats where the original "old wives tale" comes from
February 5, 200718 yr Thanks to Lovey, one of our members, she has found a story about thunder affecting birds breeding which gives credibility to what we perceived as an old wives tale. Here is the link.... http://taylordexpressions.safeshopper.com/621/cat621.htm?770 very interesting article
February 6, 200718 yr Interesting read, it seems your comment about hens being scared off the nest is what he is basically saying.
