Mum is really good and Dad goes into the nest to care for and feed also.

February 9, 200718 yr Aww, I love their little leg rings That is the most exciting part Besides the rings they are the next best thing though... Â Feathers.
February 10, 200718 yr Author Sampson and Delilah's 6th baby born today. They had a fifth baby but it went unnoticed in the nest of larger siblings and died unfed. The 6th baby born today also wasn't being noticed, so it is in the nest now, of Custard and Pudding.
February 10, 200718 yr It's sad when that happens. At least the 6th baby has got parents to look after it.
February 10, 200718 yr Author It's sad when that happens. At least the 6th baby has got parents to look after it. 6th baby is doing fine. I just checked. It helps when you have more than one pair breeding at the same time. Â ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Babies from these parents are showing thier mutations. Mum Dad Babies Baby on the left is dom pied like Mum...colour to be determined ( both parents are cinnamons though ) Baby on the right is a bit like Dad...colour yet to show
February 10, 200718 yr Author Out of Sampson and Delilahs batch of babies so far 3 are colouring up to be a bit like Dad and 2 like Mum or variations on that theme ......3 with white feathers and 2 with yellows. Edited February 10, 200718 yr by Bubbles
February 12, 200718 yr Author Funny thing about budgies....the sixth baby of this pair Mum DELILAH Â Dad SAMPSON Â ......that I put in with Custard and Pudding..was ignored...they only fed their baby. So I put the baby in with Goliath and Candy. Candy immediately set about feeding the baby. She then inherited another baby from another pair who also were ignoring thier youngest. So, they then had 2 adopted babies and 7 of their own eggs. Today, brought another newborn from Sampson and Delilah ..their 7th baby...another one lost amidst the older siblings, so I put that one also in Goliath and Candy's nestbox. Lo and behold...Goliath and Candy's firstborn had arrived. So they now have 1 of their own and 3 adopted babies. Looks like later on I will be shifting some babies and eggs about to even the load.
February 12, 200718 yr Oh my, what a juggling act. How will you remember where they all are???? Do you have it written down?
February 12, 200718 yr Author Oh my, what a juggling act. How will you remember where they all are????Do you have it written down? I have a good memory and I do write things down too. But generally I try to put babies in with foster parents that are very unlikely to produce the colouring/mutation of the adopted chick, so it is recognisable in the nest. I also take note of the chicks position in it new family.....i.e. 1st or 3 rd sibling etc.
February 12, 200718 yr That is a wonderful idea!!!! I never thought about it, until you said something.... Â It would make things easier, wouldn't it? Brilliant!
