Offspring Question...

Featured Replies

Firstly, are you sure the dom pied is a girl?? I have a double factor dom pied like yours that looks like a girl, but turned out to be a boy.. :D

If it is a hen...

All your babies will be blue and white.

You'll get all dom pied babies. :D

Here's a couple of pics of my Double factor dom pied boy... see why I thought he was a she... :D

Yes, I do see why! I am not 100% sure if it's a male or female... plus she won't be ready to breed for a very long time. Thanks for the help though!

Now if I bred the white DEC male with a lutino hen, what are my chances of offspring?

Thanks!

How do you know its a boy?

ummm I've seen him getting jiggy with it with one of my hen.... hehehe :D

Thanks! All of this stuff is so confusing and new to me... I hope I get the hang of it someday :P

I think Belle is a girl, from the looks of it the bars on the head go all the way to the cere and for a baby a bluish/white cere means a girl.

Well, DEC is a composite of recessive and dutch pied. And you have a double factor Australian Pied. Therefore, all of the offspring will have one australian pied gene and half will have one dutch pied gene. They will all also be split for recessive pied.

Is Dutch pied the same as continental clearflight pied? I thought they were different. IF the dutch pieds are not the same as continental clearflight pied, then DEC isn't a composite of recessive and dutch pied, but rather a recessive and a continental clearflight pied.

Yes that is why I asked. It looks very much like a girl. Even girls are known to mount other birds. I'm sure if you try to breed him/her you will find out for sure. :ausb:

Cheeta - Yes they are the same (from all I have read) it's simply another name used in different parts of the world.

Oh, that's fair enough. I thought that Dutch pied was like recessive pied only with iris rings.. :P
