Would I Get Lutinos

Featured Replies

hi,

I have a lutino cock and a Ressesive Pied Mauve hen.

i think i might get lutinos because the hen is Ressesive.

thanks

:D

Lutino is a sex linked gene and resides on the x chromosome. The hen being recessive doesn't mean anything with this mutation.

With this pairing you would get 100% normals males and 100% ino females.

Lovey is right.. you would get lutino females from the pairing --- it works like that when the father is lutino.

Yep its sex linked :budgiedance: and females can't be split to Lutino...they have to be visual... :yellowhead:

Hi guys sorry but the cocks "could" be split ino and split recessive pied..

The hens "could" be Ino split to recessive pied.

I use "could" because we also don't know what is in the back ground.

I paired Spangle SF grey green to Spangle SF grey green and got. Spangle SF Grey, Spangle Opaline Light green, Opaline Light green and Normal Dark green. :D No Spangle DF.

Just to go with the 'could' in your scenario... assuming that dad isn't split for anything, then the cock babies WILL BE split for Ino and recessive pied. and the hen will ALL be Inos and split for recessive. that's assuming that both birds do not have any hidden genes.

Hi Everyone,

We bought another hen yesterday, a green cinnamon, and we have changed our minds and we've put her with the Lutino cock bird. What would we expect from this pairing? Here are some pics of the 2 birds.

What happened to quarantine Josh ? To put a new bird straight into breeding is stress conditions anyway as it needs time to adjust to new surroundings. Stress from breeding brings out illness and you havent quarantined to see if there is any health problems. :D You may get eggs abd babies but what if either or both parents gets sick partway through raising the babies ?

Cheeta is right if the birds are pure, but highly unlikely..

Lutino cock to Cinnamon Hen.

Both are sex genes. Cocks could be split to ino and cinamon, Hen could be lutinos. Lutino is a green series bird so the normals should be green unless the hen is split to blue.

Are his eyes red? They don't look red to me.

I feel Bubbles gave you good advice about quarantining and not placing a new bird right into a breeding situation.

Hi,

There is no breeding box in with them yet, I wanted to see if they got on first. She seems to be okay and as I got the Lutino only the day before the Cinnamon, I decided to quarantine them together. I have put anitbiotic powder in the water as a preventative as well. So far they seem to like each other, so I'll give them a little while longer together before putting the breeding box in with them.

Are you aware that the antibiotic powder can cause sterility and other problems in some cases with breeding birds ? What kind are you using and why ?

Read this article..........

Quote....Antibiotics are dangerous drugs and should not be used except under veterinary advice. There are diseases of budgerigars which will respond to antibiotics but such conditions are far rarer than most fanciers believe.

Josh, quarantine IS important. Until you experience losing a great many of your birds due to not quarantining, you may not understand. We have lost a number of birds due to not quarantining in the early days when we didnt know about it. We had psittacosis go through my husbands aviaries and kill off half his parrots and make the rest deathly ill. Karen also on this forum has had tragedy with disease go through her avairies and lost many birds. Please reconsider your quarantine measures.
