My First Chicks

Featured Replies

I have two chicks one 18 and one 16 days old. One has an orange beak and one has black they have been like this since a few days old. Does this mean anything? These are my first chicks I was kinda expecting them both to have black beaks??

Also the parents are opaline clearflight green cock. And normal violet hen. I thought that this meant I could only get green and green-violet babies. But one of my chicks is violet too. I didn't know this was possible? Can some please explain how the violet managed to show threw?

Thanks heaps

Meg

Oned of your birds or both could be split recessive pied. An orange beak could be a recessive pied. Black beak.. i have no idea. I have clutches with some that have black beaks. they usually grow out of it.

I dont know if it means anything at all, but all the babies I have had that had black beaks were opaline. The black goes away after a couple of weeks.
