Posted January 20, 200718 yr My Jak-Jak recently laid a clutch of eggs none of which hatched. She threw them out and since she looked very well I allowed her to lay a second clutch thinking i would give her a long rest afterwards. Yesterday she was not sitting on her 8 eggs and today she is crook. She spat out all of her seed all over the nest box. All the eggs were cold so i took them out and the box too. I cleaned out the house for her. Gave her a bit of a wash too. She is fluffed up and skinny. But she has stopped spitting seed and has started eating her owna nd being fed by mate threw the bars. Is there anything else i can do to help her? HEres a picture of my girl.
January 20, 200718 yr There's a few things that make a bird throw up seeds...canker and megabacteria being two I can think of right now. Neither one I would be comfortable with treating without proper diagnosis and without a vets advice. It is never a good sign when seed is regurgitated also with weight loss. Has she a pooey bottom also. Make sure she is actually eating as they pretend to eat and often are not. If you are worried, you should possibly see a vet. The thing is, some of these things are highly contagious and you risk it spreading to the rest of the flock. Let us know how it turns out. Edited January 20, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 20, 200718 yr Author well she doesn't have a pooey bottom at all.... I'll get her to a vet asap. But in the mean time... Is it airborne and contagious. Or can i leave in her separate cage outside the avairy with no physical contact. She is already stressed because i took the eggs away. I didn't want to also take her away from the other birds. Her partner calls for her when I tried to move her before

Her partner calls for her when I tried to move her before I dont know enough about how these particular things are contagious or even if this is either of those two diseases/ ailments. It sounds like it could be either. I wouldnt attempt to advise without being a lot more knowledgable. I do know that any sick bird, must be separated from others and treated and put in a warm hospital cage. If she is sick, she wont be stressing about her eggs. She will stress if you have her close enough to hear her mates call. I would have her inside the house away from all other birds, in a hospital cage or warm cage and be seeking a vet. Tim Oldfield at Wattle Grove Vet Clinic is who I see. He is a top avian vet and does the necessary tests while you are there. Edited January 20, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 21, 200718 yr Author Jak-Jak is so much better today. She is brighter and jumping around the cage and talking and eating. Do I still need to take her to the vet today?
