Posted January 13, 200718 yr Squee and I have a new game. If she flies over when I call, she gets a tasty prize - today it was a grape. Perfect oppurtunity for photos! Though, had to use the flash and some are blurry.. oh well. Squee's eagle impressions: *zoom* Some weird shots: Coming in for landing: Showing off that that wingspan:
January 13, 200718 yr Wow...they are fantastic shots!! I've tried to get photo's of my guys mid flight...but have yet to master clicking the button at the right time! My camera is always that half second too slow!!! I haven't tried grapes before....so obviously they are safe for the birds? And do most like the taste of grapes? I will have to get some more now..... Tracey
January 13, 200718 yr Wow. How do you get flight shots? What settings do you need to have the camera on. Because my camera has a delay between the time the button is pressed and the picture is taken.
January 13, 200718 yr Nice photos of Squee! Can we let her out next time I come down?!? Wow. How do you get flight shots? What settings do you need to have the camera on. Because my camera has a delay between the time the button is pressed and the picture is taken. There should be a 'motion' option in your camera which pretty much increases the shutter speed to take the photos in a shorter period of time (if it's a newer camera). Sometimes they have a little guy running as the symbol. Also try to have as much natural light in the room when you take the photos, as the less light you have the more the camera has to compensate by leaving the shutter open for longer and thus a longer time between pressing the button and the photo being taken. I've noticed a couple new cameras have this massive processing delay, so there is most likely a way to decrease/remove it if it is actually a set option.
January 13, 200718 yr Author Thanks Maximillian - I use grapes very occasionally when we get some. I don't think they have any nutritional value, and they're full of sugar. I only have them as a treat(/bribe ). All the budgies I've tried it on seem to like it, probably because it's very sweet. I would say they're safe in moderation. Squee only nibbles or licks at the juice. I think there was that scare about a specific shipment of grapes or something, it's pinned somewhere in these forums, but that was two years ago. Sailor, like Flake said the newer cameras should be a motion/action setting. Or increase shutter speed. That should get rid of blurry ghost pictures. If it's a processing delay, I think it helps to decrease the quality, if you can do that with your camera. Eg taking a photo at 6mp takes a lot longer than 4mp. Of course you lose quality, but you will get the shot in frame. With these photos I used a flash, because it was getting dark. The flash setting is good because the camera has to take the photo in the tiime it takes to flash, so again there's no motion blur. Though, it washes out colours and increases the contrast between fore and background. Plus it's not too nice for your bird if you do it lots. I could frame these fairly easily because I knew exactly where she was going to go - straight to me, or straight back home. Those 'weird shots' happen when she suddenly spots something else that is fascinating and heads for it Here is a good post about flight photos: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=1962 Edited January 13, 200718 yr by Chrysocome
January 13, 200718 yr I just love pics of birds in flight, they are stunning!! Did you take those pics in a wider frame and then zoom it in or crop it?? My camera doesn't have a motion setting so I will have to play around with it some more (or get a better camera ) Do you mind if I ask what brand it is??
January 14, 200718 yr Author Thanks Riebie, most of them haven't been changed, but yes some are zoomed in and/or cropped, particularly the ones under the heading "weird shots." The last one is cropped a tiny bit to get my then-sticky hand out of the frame, (Laughing out loud). My camera is fairly high resolution so it's not too noticeable (I hope). My camera doesn't have a motion setting either, actually. It's a Canon Ixus 55. It does have an option called "kids and pets" which I think will do the trick, will have to play with it. It has a half-second delay as well, for me it's about predicting where the bird will fly in that time. Out of 20 shots of guessing, aiming and clicking, you get one that's exactly what you want, which is that last one for me
