January 31, 200718 yr A blue based bird with a grey gene comes out to be a grey colored bird that maybe where the blue hue is coming into play. The 2nd picture he looks like an opaline grey from what I can see. Pretty bird, congrats
January 31, 200718 yr He's very pretty. I would love to have a grey bird. I have never seen one in person - just on pics through this forum. I'd love to see more pics when you can get your camera and computer to cooperate
January 31, 200718 yr I agree Shawna I am with you there have been in grey's in our area either. You are forunate.
February 1, 200718 yr He is nice I agree with Lovey (and my first guess) with Grey Opaline and I think Cinnamon as well, the darker second picture makes the wings look brown.
February 1, 200718 yr Just to throw a spanner in the works... His body color is light, and although it appears to be faint grey in some lighting, it actually has a light, denim blue tinge to it. Is it possible that he is mauve (which looks like steel grey - i.e has that blue tinge) Just a random thought. Feathers.
February 3, 200718 yr Thanks for all the kind words, and input! Nerwen, I remember that you, Nathan (Kirby) and Joey all saw a lot more in that initial photo than I did. Good call! I have wondered exactly what "mauve" meant, Feathers. Steel blue is a good way to put it. It seems to pop out more under artificial lighting. The color reminds me of a stonewashed denim or chambray. I'll spend much of the day thinking he's grey, then when he comes downstairs for "social hour" in the evening :ausb: I go, "Oh, yeah -- you're blue!". Wow! Sailorwolf, it's a long story! Basically, it involved a lot of driving and mucho help from my husband. I wouldn't even have thought of it, without the encouragement I got earlier in this thread. Best save the rest of that story for a more appropriate forum! Thanks! ~~~ Kali
