Posted January 6, 200718 yr Hi, Everyone - This is the only photo I have to show you, because it's of a rescue. I'd love to adopt him (9-mo. old English Budgie), but he lives too far away from me & of course a rescue will not ship. Since he's out of reach & I've fallen in love w/ his coloring, how would I describe what I'm wanting to a potential breeder? (I'm also trying to locate a good list of breeders in the U.S.) It wouldn't have to be absolutely identical to this bird, but I do think he's gorgeous. Anything white, with primarily grey/brownish markings is basically what I'm hoping to describe. There was a 5-mo. old hen which looked similar that I found for sale recently, but given the $130 to ship her, I took a night to sleep on it, and POOF! She was gone! That breeder was describing her simply as cinnamon, I think. Thanks if you have some tips in this regard! ~~~ Kali
January 6, 200718 yr Thanks, Kirby! By the way, I love seeing all the birds in your signature. What a nice variety, and good names you've given them! ~~~ Kali
January 6, 200718 yr I would love a bigger picture but I guess that's out of the question :bluebudgie: I wondered about Texas clearbody but there seems to be a lot of grey colour still on the body. They should be all white with maybe some colour around the legs. I think he might be a light grey Opaline cinnamon. The cinnamon gene lighting the colour. Edited January 6, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 6, 200718 yr I was also thinking that guys.. Its very hard to tell. Grey for sure, and looks opaline. However at the same time it looks texas clearbody like. So a bigger picture is needed Aww thanks! I like the names i picked out for them, i try to give them cute names that suit them. (Laughing out loud) Kirby
January 6, 200718 yr Wow, I love this forum -- you all are so helpful!! I was just perusing the site yesterday & saw where someone complimented someone else on their TX Clearbody. I didn't have the nerve to ask, which one is it?, since several birds were pictured. (Might as well paint a big "DUH" on my forehead, huh?!) I actually had no clue this bird I submitted the photo of might be of the same type. However, at least now I know I can keep my eye out for, possibly: -- a Grey/Cinnamon Opaline &/or -- a Grey TX Clearbody (or something close!). Do you have any clue where I could post an interest in such a bird, being in the midwestern US? I'm really having trouble finding a list of parakeet breeders here, for some reason. That's way out of range for most of you, I know, but if someone near me does happen to stumble across this & can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!! ~~~ Kali This is certainly bound to reduce the clarity, but in case the increased size is actually helpful, here it is: ~~~ Kali
January 6, 200718 yr Thanks, Joey. He's so pretty, isn't he? Hard to believe he landed in a rescue at not even one year of age (?!).
January 6, 200718 yr Can you stay why you think Texas clearbody Joey? I'm just wondering I don't really see it myself. White base Clearbodys should have white body. This is one of Bubbles Clearbodys: I know she is a blue not a grey but you the idea that the body is white and not a pale grey. Edited January 6, 200718 yr by Nerwen
January 6, 200718 yr LMAO Its funny you showed that picture I loved that budgie when you posted it on Just Budgies I saved her picture! I put her as a Desk Top back round! My reasons: It is a young bird, the color is always different in a young bird than that of an adult. Look at the throat spots and wings...they are not brown compare the eye to the throat spots. The eye is a true black color. Actually that budgie does have some blue if you look very closley on its chest, a light blue sheen hnm...Ill circle it for you guys Just something else I need to add I am an artist and do look at alot of photograhpy, the reason why the color of the budgie is so white is because there is light coming from the left side of the picture. The front of the budgie down towards its chest and feet is extremly light. Now take a look behind the budgie on the rump. It is the same color as yours!Your bird is not completely white either it has lots of Dilute grey in it . You also used a way better qaulity camera than who ever took that picture. You can see that the black iron bar the budgie is standing on has white light on it. That is from the flash of the camera which even brightens the picture more than it already is that is what the flash is for and dilutes the photo even more. First here is my Cinnamon Grey Hen Anibelle she is a Cinnamon Grey Normal and 6 months old: See... she is young her shape and size is very similiar to that budgie because they are both english....that one might even be the same age Im not sure. But that one is definately not Cinnamon. On my budgie you can clearly see the Cinnamon. I forget what that big COLORED throat spot is but see how on my budgie that longer throat spot is a Palid Blue color. On that budgie it is Mauve.... I circled the blue in this ones feathers, you can't see much but look very closely there is a small amount. Young birds look diifent than that of adult birds. They are always duller in color. How old is you Texas Clearbody Nerwen? I hope I explained myself clearly!
January 6, 200718 yr Thank you Joey that did help. I realize now it was my screen playing tricks (or my eyes ) and that bird isn't a cinnamon. How I wish that we had flight feathers on the bird it would solve the issue, texas clear bodies have grey flight feathers not black. The bird show is Bubbles bird (shiloh) not mine. I have a yellowface clearbody but I wanted another white bird so show the difference. The birds are adults or at least had a few moults and lost their baby feathers. The grey has a blue cere and Shiloh's is crusty brown (and has been breed) I can see Texas Clear body is a possible answer but I think with only this picture it's going to be questionable. A pied could be a possible answer as well. Due to the white around the chest. The circle you marked are apart of the reason I'm not sure on Clearbody. This this area that should be more white. I think a poorly marked (for showing) clearbody could have more colour than normal.
January 6, 200718 yr I say Texas clearbody too as I have seen one exactly the same in another place. I have also seen a pale lavender texas clearbody and a cinnamon texas clearbody so I am thinking their must be some colour variations in them. Edited January 7, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 7, 200718 yr I think that the budgie in the picture is a grey opaline Texas clearbody -- mine is not opaline -- finding a breeder that has clearbodies may be tricky. Edited January 7, 200718 yr by HurdyBirdy
January 10, 200718 yr HurdyBurdy, You *DO* have a gorgeous bird there! I'm envious. UPDATE: I couldn't resist the temptation to write that shelter that has him up for adoption. I knew I was too far away, but I just had to let them know their ad was being seen, and that they'd made me lovesick! They wrote back & said they'd be happy to let me adopt him, even though I'm out of state. Agh! (There went the heartstrings again.) It'd be 8 hrs. just to get there. (Big sigh!) It's maddening to know he's available & needs a home, and not be able to get to him! ~~~ Kali
January 10, 200718 yr you know, I do 8 hours trips (one way) for work all the time!! It is'nt too bad.. just make a road trip out of it.. it'll all be worth it in the end.
January 10, 200718 yr Yeah and you could treat yourself to takeaways and motels or a scenic route. All sorts of fun. You could drive there on the first day, take a rest in a motel or something overnight, and then pick your budgie up and drive back the next day.
January 10, 200718 yr just make a road trip out of it.. it'll all be worth it in the end Sounds like a good idea to me Now you just have to convince the other half. Make it a weekender... you know, I do 8 hours trips (one way) for work all the time Cheeta, I used to do the same thing, going to Albany or somewhere to instal computer networks... now I know I was mad... What is your excuse?
January 10, 200718 yr Cheeta, I used to do the same thing, going to Albany or somewhere to instal computer networks... now I know I was mad... What is your excuse? well I work with youth in high school running seminars and organising youth events and all that within the state of Western Australia. So with all our equipments required for the events, we pretty much have to drive everywhere with the trailer, or bus it. I've up to Kununurra once, broome twice, and all over up that way a fair bit as well. Been to Esperance three time and all down south. The only place I haven't really been is east.. the furthest east I've been is about three hours to Merredin.
January 10, 200718 yr Aaah! Here I am, trying to silence this voice in my head that's been telling me the same kind of stuff, and you guys go & add to the roar! I have contacted the shelter again, and mentioned that if by some odd chance he isn't adopted by spring (better traveling conditions), we might just take a family trip to a spot about 3 hrs. from them, and swing over their way on our way home. We'd rack up a lot of miles doing it, but it might be fun. I'm not optimistic about this, however, and would actually hate for him to be in limbo for that amount of time, anyway! ~~~ Kali
January 31, 200718 yr Thanks to all your encouragement and an amazingly agreeable hubby, I now not only have "one like this" -- I have this one! I do wish I had better photos to share, but these were the only two I happened to snap before my computer and camera declared all-out war upon one another. I've been fiddling with both for a week and a half, to no avail. One picture with the flash, and one without: Of course, these do him no justice! However, I can make a few more comments about his appearance, now that I can see him in person. He looks more like Joey's cinnamon grey hen, Anibelle, than was apparent from the initial photo. His body color is light, and although it appears to be faint grey in some lighting, it actually has a light, denim blue tinge to it. (Good call, Joey!) The blue is more concentrated and most evident on his rump. His markings are not jet black. He does have an iris ring, and his feet are pinkish. One flight feather has grown in, and has the same coloration as the markings on his wings. I do think he is opaline, if I understand it correctly. He has the faint bars on the top of his head, some of his body color can be seen on his wings, and there's a "V" effect when looking at him from the back. I believe TX Clearbody is ruled out due to his dark flight feathers, but am not sure exactly what the rest of his description leaves me with! ~~~ Kali P.S. Rainbow, re: your inquiry about the shelter's location, would I have dared answer "northeast"?!
