Posted January 5, 200718 yr Hi guys, I have always thought my Sherbie was a girl, but I was reading here about the cere of an adult male recessive pied being pink. I have included a couple of pics of Sherbie at different ages. She is about 10 months old now. Her cere has never gone hormonal brown or anything. She still looks like a girl to me but that might be because I have always thought of her that way. She is bonded with her mate Shadow but now I know that it doesn't prove anything that he tries to mate with her!! :hap: I was hoping to breed them next summer but now I have some doubts. Please Help!? Thanks Shell oopsie! I forgot to include the images! Edited January 5, 200718 yr by Shellball
January 5, 200718 yr Can you tell me when the pictures where taken? Can we get a new one of 'her' now? In the pictures I above I don't think Sherbie is recessive. Check her eyes now and see if any iris rings have or are appearing. The patch of colour around the chest is a sign of dominant pied. (is she the one in your avatar too? ) It hard to tell in these pictures but in the last I think possibly a girl.
January 5, 200718 yr Thanks for responding Nerwen, No she doesn't have any iris rings. I had some pics of her on here months ago and everyone said she was recessive, opaline, and I think they said clearwing. She doesn't have a spot on the back of her head but a bar of yellow that goes all the way around her head and almost no markings. The markings that she does have are pale, and kind of vague. Yes she is the one in my sig and avatar. The 2nd picture in this post was taken last month I think. I suppose she might be dp but I was told rp. Thanks again, :hap: Shell
January 6, 200718 yr Thanks for the response. Why do you say D pied rather than R pied? I thought that DP had a band of clear around chest/belly where Sherbie has blotches of green and yellow, and she has no head spot or iris rings. I am just confused, not saying you are wrong. I will try to get a good picture of her in natural light tomorrow. thanks again, Shell
January 6, 200718 yr Might have a hunt for that other thread then. Sometime we learn to judge bird better with different pictures and are wrong with first guesses. Although not having the iris rings is confusing, it might have been the main reason we picked Rec pied before. I have a dominant pied with a ring from one side to the other (it's how I came to calling her Ringo :bluebudgie: ) Here is the thread: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=11688&hl= Cheeta stated dominant. It was the one from the other site that was classed as recessive that you said looked like her. I would question that bird it is quite possible it is a DF dominant. (but that's another story) Edited January 6, 200718 yr by Nerwen
