The Angry Dolphin

Baby makes the angry dolphin noise at her toys fairly often. She chitters at them and then hacks at them or pulls on them. I can understand why she does this when I'm trying to take her out - she'll chitter and then run to her toy and play with it (hello! can't you see I want to stay in my cage?!). Ever since we first had her, Jared would tell me she does that because she doesn't like what I'm doing. Then I read that its the noise they make when they're irritated. So why would she do this out of the blue while playing?

Think of it kind of like a dog growling. Lots of dogs growl to show dislike for something but they also do it during play. Budgies are sometimes the same way. When they're playing and really getting into it, they can do the angry dolphin to show playful agitation at what the toy is doing. For instance, if it's a hanging toy it might swing back at them, thus making the budgie go "oh no you didn't!!" :(Laughing out loud):

Merlin does it when I cover him up every night at the sheet :D they are cute noises I think :D

I love the angry dolphin noise.... it really IS a cute sound. I have no idea why I didn't think of it like a dog growling - of COURSE they do it when they play! Too funny!!

So I'm not the only one that calls it "angry dolphin" (Laughing out loud). I also call them "little Flipper" noises. You can just hear the irritation - the higher pitched and frequent, the more annoyed. I think it is cute too.

Squee does it when the sun is down and anyone moves in the room she's in. It's so weird hearing dolphin noises coming from the opposite corner of the room! Milly does it to her toys too - I hadn't thought of it like growling during play either but it makes perfect sense.

My LC has the strangest angry dolphin noise its really deep and sounds like a machine gun more than anything - she must be really showing her anger hehe!
