Posted December 31, 200618 yr Well.. we got a call from a friend who said his sister was getting rid of her budgie. Guess they didn't want it anymore and it's friend had died quite a while back. He was brought to us in a travel cage and we were given the last of the bird stuff with it. I'm glad we had a spare cage. The friend who brought it to us seems to think he's 5-6 years old. He's close banded and I'm pretty sure I saw 03 on it. The seed we were given was mainly husks and looked to be poor quality, so we just chucked all the food away. I put in a few extra toys we had around. He's found his new seed and has been eating it. I'm sure he's male. Here's his first picture while here. I'll see what I can do to get a few more tomorrow when it's lighter out. His name is Lucky. I don't know if that was his name before or not, but my friend said that it was considering all he'd been through already. My daughter has already claimed him as hers, and since she heard him get called Lucky... well that's his name. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/lis...ayDec302006.jpg Edited December 31, 200618 yr by Bubbles
December 31, 200618 yr :hap: So glad he found you! Spoil him like mad the next few days (but I guess I didn't have to say that). :hap:
December 31, 200618 yr Author We'll do our best. I feel bad cause he's moulting really bad right now (as you can see) and there's noone to help him scratch the itch.
December 31, 200618 yr He is a nice boy. Try and get a close look at the ring to get his correct age.
December 31, 200618 yr Hurdy you maybe right at first the blue bit on the cere seemed to dark to me to be a girl although I did think the cere might be a touch pale. But looking again there seems to be more white.
December 31, 200618 yr beautiful bird, maybe the flash washed it out the blue on the cere? That happens with Merlin too .
December 31, 200618 yr Author Lucky may be female I guess. The cere is just such a dark blue though. At any rate, I've taken a few more pics of him/her. I suspect that there is English budgie in Lucky as it's such a large bird, and has been banded. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/lis...kyDec312006.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/lis...Dec312006-2.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/lis...c312006face.jpg
December 31, 200618 yr Lucky is beautiful, pinfeathers and all. In no time he'll be in top condition with a little TLC.
December 31, 200618 yr I reckon Lucky is a girl. Her cere is very pale. See how there is a bit of brown crust still left on it in the 2nd and 3rd picture, which would most likely be left over from breeding condition.
December 31, 200618 yr okay seeing the new picture I stay Lucky is female the cere has a touch of brown in the middle. She is either just coming out of condition or into it. She looks like a Opaline Clearbody as well.
January 1, 200718 yr Author I reckon Lucky is a girl. Her cere is very pale. See how there is a bit of brown crust still left on it in the 2nd and 3rd picture, which would most likely be left over from breeding condition. I think the flash lightened the cere alot! The cere is pretty much dark blue except for the spot of brown. I'll have to wait for a sunny day to get an accurate colour to show in the pics. okay seeing the new picture I stay Lucky is female the cere has a touch of brown in the middle. January 1, 200718 yr 1. because s/he looks like my Tootie (only darker) 2. The yellow body with a faint green around the leg area are key points for a clear body 3. the grey (washed out) flight feathers are another mark of the gene. The Opaline still turns the wings to the color of the body (or what the body should be) in the case of clear bodies the green doesn't show on the body (like it doesn't show on lutinos) so the wings and body don't match.
