Sexing Recissive Pied

Featured Replies

Hey birdy people.

I have a picture here of my two newbies.

They are recessive pied.

But because they have soo much white on them I'm not sure which is the male and which is the female. But it seems to be they must be one of each.

Please let me know if you know.

Recessive can be difficult. Going from the photos I would suggest left is female and right is male. :)

I agree with Bubbles. left female and right male

they both ook female to me

if you look at my recessive pied in my siggy you will see how pink his cere is that is a boy recessive pied. if they are more of a whitish tan pink that is an indicator of a girl. But I do remember Pretty was hard to sex too when he was young.

I'd have to agree with left female, right male. I think the lighting is washing out the color in the cere just a bit with the bird on the right.

Untill they get a poofy head and start acting like stinky males :P

they are both males because their is a slight blue tinge on the left one and the right is a light pink with a tiny amount of blue specks. let us know how it goes thanks,

I belive like the others that one on the left is female. I've never seen a male (young, old and changing from pink to dark blue) that pale in colour. That cere looks almost white to me.

If you could get better pics without a flash that may help in the sunlight.

I stick to at least 1 female and reserve the right on the left for male until I see a better picture. Females can be tinged with blue when out of breeding condition and even have a light blue cere :).

I would say the bird on the left is definitely a young female, as the bars are still near the cere. The other bird is also young it looks like, and I would guess male on that one, but I agree it is hard to tell cere color from that picture. Could you post more pics?
