Hi, One of my hens layed 9 eggs. First time with her husband. Not one hatched . I let her sit for ages( another hen with her layed after her and her babies were 3-4 wksold) I checked all the eggs they had lovely yokes but not one was fertile.I have her and hubbie consumate but could this mean he/she have fertility issues. Her husband is older ? not sure how old but could hebe too old?? Any ideas welcome Jule

If i remember some I read correct the fact she is laying means she is firtile. You could try them again to see if you have any luck. Are they big show type birds? if so their feathers might be causing problems. Most breeder of these bird pluck or trim the feathers around their vent areas for a better chance.

 

How old is he? does it look to be in condition? (dark blue cere).

okay Now she has a new husband as hubbie no 1 was older than i thought. I know new hubbie is fertile as his first wife died and they had three beautiful babies together. Shes now sitting again and has been been for at least 4 wks. Eggs appear to have an air sack at each end ???? other than that they look fine. Could there be a problem with her vent area?? Is it worth trimming back the feathers there ?? Any advice welcome Jule

You should know that the eggs only take 18-20 days to hatch. So it seems these ones are again overdue.

 

This problem could be anything from eggs not being fertilized, the hen not sitting correctly (eggs going cold) to death in shell, which is caused by lack of humidity.

Maybe you could try marking her eggs when they are laid and transfer them to another nest.
