Now: aproaching 1 year old!

I was going to do this with mine in a few weeks, as a couple are still a bit prickly from their 1st molt. Mainly to show how much Dekota has changed from sky blue to green.

 

Merlin and Blinkie both grew into devastatingly handsome boys, didn't they?

Feathers thank you, Merlin will appreciate the compliment. He certainly has changed with the poofy head .

 

Chook is cool too I love to watch how the YF2 gene work from being a baby to how it is really spreading on his body.

Is this really the same budgie?

I'm not sure what it means that Milly had a blue belly when she was little, and she's got a bit of a blue sheen to her green now. None of my other green recessive pieds have had that.

 

I haven't got photos of my previous budgies as bubs, and Squee's not really old enough to look all that different. She's lost her baby bars and the iris rings will come in any day now (if not recessive).

Hi,

the reason that she had a blue belly before and now has blue/green look is that she is not a light green, she is a Sky Blue, Yellow Face type 2, Recessive Pied. There might be more mutation but I am new to this and might not have caught it all. She is very very cute.

thats right Shell is correct that is what the YF2 gene can do make the whole bird turn from blue to a "seafoam" type of green. Nuts huh

Wow! That's amazing. I had no idea Thanks for that info. Genetics continues to astonish me! I guess that could possibly explain the other colour changes she's gone through, particularly on her back. Her main tail feather is now almost completely yellow as well (it used to be olive green).

It is so interesting how the yellow on Isis makes her look olive now and Arkady is almost completely green.
