January 12, 200718 yr Author Saffron has just laid another egg. I don't know what to do really. Whether to leave it with her or what. I don't like the idea of addling eggs as I'm worried I won't do it properly and will end up with a deformed baby or something. Isis has eggs at the moment too, so if anything goes wrong, I have her to foster out to (although she is also a new mum). I am moving in 2 months time so she is cutting it a bit fine.
January 12, 200718 yr Congratulations !!! Very pretty babies. Beautiful colours Can I just ask what exactly are splayed legs? I'm afraid I never heard about it :hap:
January 12, 200718 yr Author When their legs go out at right angles to their bodies. Like they've been horse riding all day. Spread-eagled, doing the splits. :hap: Edited January 12, 200718 yr by Sailorwolf
January 13, 200718 yr Author Thank you. The babies are starting to come out of the nest box now. However Izzy was trying to mate with one. The poor bewildered thing. It was asking for food and instead of being fed it was being beak bopped on the beak. Luckily Izzy is a push over and the baby was able to defend itself with out him getting grumpy or anything. They are really silly babies, they like to flap their wings at full speed inside the nest box and hit mum and brothers and sisters with their wings at the same time. The youngest baby is such a sweety. It always tries to snuggle into my clothing and today it fell asleep on my lap, all snuggled in. It's so cute. Also, my babies are getting a little bitey. Any ideas? Are they "teething". Do all babies go like this. Or are they just extra naughty. Or are they trying to groom me but doing it too hard. Or are they trying to see if I'm edible. They tend to bite and ibble me and use their tongue the whole time. And they also do a bit of lunging. Best line of defense or attack would be...? Edited January 13, 200718 yr by Sailorwolf
January 13, 200718 yr Check the cere of that one it is highly possible it's a girl. Keep an eye on him and that he still does feed them after something like that. They are really silly babies, they like to flap their wings at full speed inside the nest box and hit mum and brothers and sisters with their wings at the same time. I think that is so funny to hear wings bashing everything and the others telling them off. Mine 'nibbled' hard as well, i think they are just learning about the world and don't realize they are hurting us. I either got something else to distract them or put them back down for a minute or two.
January 14, 200718 yr Author They all do the biting. I think they are just testing me to see what I am. Yes Izzy does feed them still. I suspect that one is a girl too. Thanks for the help. Edited January 14, 200718 yr by Sailorwolf
January 14, 200718 yr Just a little tip. When my babies are at this age and I dont want parents to breed again, I take the door off the nestbox and have a little ladder up to it for the babies. The babies can come and go and Mum doesnt feel like laying eggs in a vulnerable nestbox so she stops. If yours isnt set up so you can do that, replace the door with a see through one of plastic or glass. By the way....the babies are stunning !! Edited January 14, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 14, 200718 yr Author Well. I've got two eggs from Saffron already and they are basically the same age as Isis's eggs so it wouldn't be too bad. It would also be ensurance for if Isis has problems, then I can foster her eggs out to Saffron. I'm also really hoping to get a green bird from Saffron too.
January 16, 200718 yr Author The little babies are learning how to fly. They are so cute. :budgiedance:
January 17, 200718 yr Author Here are some new pictures of my babies. The youngest was having a snooze in the nest box so I haven't got a picture of 'her' yet. I got both flash and non flash pictures to show you their colours. Their colours are more like the pictures with no flash. Here is the two of them with flash: And here they are with no flash: *preen* Yawn Ghost budgies! The ghost budgies get down and funky. *dance* Well those are my little bubbies. They are so cute
January 19, 200718 yr Author Th youngest baby (cinnamon wing) crawled up my T-shirt sleeve and feel asleep on my chest under my shirt while I was reading. So cute. She is such a little naughty though. Loves to nip. Little Brat.
January 25, 200718 yr Author Now we have 7 eggs. She'll probably lay 8 eggs again. Her eggs are so small compared to Isis's. :ausb: The babies must have violet in them or something, because they all have a purple sheen to their bums.
January 25, 200718 yr They are all so very cute. I'm glad she didn't have any issues bringing these babies up. Since she is into having a second clutch you know she is in good shape. Will you let her do this again next year?
January 26, 200718 yr Author No I don't think so. She will be six next year. But she is a very good mum and has had no problems since. So I will not be too worried if she decides to have babies with telling me again. (Laughing out loud)
