Posted November 16, 200618 yr This is a Huge Thank you to Cheeta's husband Daniel who has made a disabled budgie have a new life. I have a little budgie I call Trooper. This is his story: Here is a disabled budgie I call Trooper (Kirby named him) . Trooper had a rough start to life as a new fledgling. He flew under my foot as I stepped into the main aviary and I crushed the poor little mite. I was devastated !! :fear The only saving grace for Trooper was that I was barefoot and the ground underneath my foot was soft sand. The vet adopted a wait and see as Trooper looked like he may not make it and there was little that could be done at the time. However Trooper has lived up to his name and is still with us. He is healthy and happy but has issues. He's not all that good at flying but can acchieve "bunny hops" of small flights. He has a foot that is broken and set in a sideways position, so he isnt all that good at perching, but he can perch. He can climb the walls of the aviary too. He is very good at climbing ladders and Cheeta and her husband Daniel have made him a special ladder which arrives soon. He has progressed from the baby cage to the fledgling aviary just this week and is doing fine. Trooper has a friend in Dancer the grey opaline who also has a funny foot. Dancer is Trooper friend and protector. Dancer keeps Trooper company and defends him as well from any inquisitive fledglings who get too close. Troopers feed and water trays have to be at ground level for him. Here is a temporary ladder we made for him but he does prefer the rung type that Daniel has made (we haven't got it yet, but its coming)... Here is Dancer: Dancer has a deformed foot also and has learnt to overcome the disability as shown in the previous photo....Dancer can perch !! ****Now, the good part.... Cheetas husband Daniel, out of the goodness of his heart made me a special ladder so we could try and give Trooper some kind of way to get up to the top of the fledgling aviary to socialise with the others. He has spent his life on the aviary floor poor little fellow. Daniel's Ladder ..... and the result..... and with his "minder" Dancer Three cheers for Daniel and Cheeta :hap: Edited February 4, 200718 yr by Bubbles

November 16, 200618 yr Author :hap: with joy that is wonderful, you rock TrooperDaniel and Cheeta you both are wonderful people - I am sure Trooper has thank you over and over and over in his budgie mind. Karen how great is that to have these 2 live so near you!! Hats off to all involved. It's so wonderful !! It was the highlight of my day. Little Trooper used the ladder with additional fluttering of wings and his beak to work his way up. He got a fright from a noise and FLEW across the aviary and back again to the ladder !! He has never flown more than a tiny bunny hop from the ground 20 inches at best ... Now he goes up and down the ladder, flapping his little wings, and even flies and lands from perch to perch. An amazing day thanks to Daniels ladder. What an angel :angel1: ....Daniel I mean

November 17, 200618 yr Author Boy, Trooper sure likes his new ladder and he and Dancer sure like each other too, very nice of Cheeta and Daniel to make him that "special needs" equipment, his life will be wonderful now, I'm sure! He's a very lucky budgie I haven't seen him on the ground since the ladder went in. We had breakfast out by the aviary and Trooper was working his way up the ladder....got halfway and flew onto a perch to preen himself. He has a new positive outlook on life now. his name sure suits him .that was real nice of cheeta's husband to make that ladder for him , l'm glad to see trooper is adapting well with his new ladder TROOPER was a name that Kirby gave him knowing Trooper's story and how hard the little guy has tried to stay with us....a great name for the boy Cheeta and Daniel are national treasures :hap:
November 17, 200618 yr :hap: What a wonderfully heart warming story this is.. Cheers to Cheeta and her hubby for making such a wonderful ladder and snuggles to little Trooper for being such a brave budgie and trying it out Karen i can imagine you must be THRILLED to pieces... WHATTA TROOPER!
November 17, 200618 yr That is such a wonderful story! Cheeta, you certainly have a prize in Daniel. How wonderful! How did this all come about?? I'd love to hear! (Bubbles, hope you don't mind but I had to make it all fit in the same window...)
November 17, 200618 yr Author That is such a wonderful story! Cheeta, you certainly have a prize in Daniel. How wonderful! How did this all come about?? I'd love to hear! (Bubbles, hope you don't mind but I had to make it all fit in the same window...) Knowing Daniel's talent for woodwork and making birdie playgyms of excellent quality....I asked for a special sized ladder hoping that this would work for Trooper to realise there was a life above ground level. Daniel wasted no time and made the ladder immediately for me and out of the goodness of his heart he would accept no payment saying I had done things for them too. I will find a way to make up for this great favour :hap: Friendship is great ...a two-way street. I am thrilled that this has worked immediately the ladder was installed...really thrilled. I will install some platforms higher up now too, as it seems Trooper went to ground level to sleep last night. If he has a platform up with the other birds, he can sleep better I think. Cheeta ( Bih Lin ) and Daniel are lovely people and are to be commended.
November 17, 200618 yr That is lovely. Congratulation to all involved from the idea to the actual making and installation. Happy climbing Trooper. Cindy
November 17, 200618 yr What a fantastic story - I can't believe it bought a tear to my eye :hap: I have seen some other work that Daniel has done and it is truely amazing - Cheeta, be sure to pass onto Daniel that he is an amazing and talented person!! It is great to see little Trooper getting around the avairy
November 17, 200618 yr What a neat little story and what great people . It's so cool to hear about such good things. I thing Dancer can certainly relate to little Trooper. Go Trooper!! Go Daniel!! Go Cheeta!!!
November 17, 200618 yr Awe look at him so proud before you know it he probably will be the leader of the budgies!
November 18, 200618 yr He does look so happy to be up there, doesn't he? I hope he will sleep up high with the others once you put the platforms in. That is a very good idea. This is such an uplifting, wonderfully touching story. The kindnesses we give to each other make life good, don't they?
November 18, 200618 yr Kaz, trooper looks great up on the top perch... I hope he'll be sleeping up high soon as well.. :ausb: Daniel has a very kind heart... he can't say no to people... hehehe, which is good for me... that's why I've got 21 budgies at the moment.. (Laughing out loud)
November 21, 200618 yr Author Update on little Trooper. He spends almost no time on the ground now. I was about to put some platforms in so he could sleep with the other fledglings but he has learnt to perch all night and sleep where the other youngsters do. He flies everywhere and runs up and down the perches. He still uses his ladder...it's kind of a security blanket thing. He goes back to the ladder to sit on the rungs when he feels a bit insecure. But mostly he is "just one of the guys !" http://media.putfile.com/trooper-14
November 22, 200618 yr Aw, great video! Trooper is aptly named, isn't he? Oh yes, and please tell little Trooper my birds said "hi" and sent many congratulatory chirps his way while they watched his video. LOL
November 22, 200618 yr Author Kirby AKA Nathan thought up exactly the right name for this little fellow for sure. The ladder was the key to his success....it gave him a reason to aim for the sky. :angel1:
November 22, 200618 yr That's terrific, Trooper has certainly adjusted very well and fits right in. My budgies heard your budgie background noise and everybody is madly screaming!
November 22, 200618 yr What a beautiful and touching story. Truly heartwarming. Cheers to all those involved.
