Sorry guys, it has been a bit slow working by myself in the heat but I have got the sides done, execpt for some triming.

 

Need to cut in the windows and trim the top. (Gable)

 

Just the triming above the doors needed and put on the guttering

 

Roof needs to go on.

 

Trim the gable and finish off the power board.

 

Cut in the two windows and start the flights. Three in this part.

I don't know if you have thought if it or not, but an awning made of shadecloth stretched out over the top raised up about a foot above the roofline, is great for keep temperatures down through the hot weather and from the aviary being a metal construction. I have it here now and it makes a great deal of difference. Also our friend and show breeder near Bunbury, Mr. Gearing, has just done the same thing. Works a treat

It is looking really great, coming along very nicely too, despite the warm conditions. Well done, Daz.

Well rain has fallen to stop construction. Last night sitting under the pergola having a quiet drink and thinking about things, I decided to put a big effort in to finish the shed today.

 

Maybe thinking like that brings on the rain.

 

One window done.

 

One end trimmed.

 

If it stops raining great...i'll finish the other end and try to get the other window in.

If it doesn't stop raining ... great, we really need the rain.

 

Thanks for the tip Kaz, I am going to insulate the roof and sides but if that doesn't work i'll try the Shade Cloth as well.

The rain stopped so I got a few hours last night on the aviary.

Photos taken this morning before I went to work.

 

 

 

List to do to finish off outside. I want to finish these this year.

1. finish off roof sheeting 3/4 to go.
   
2. Put on ridge cap.
   
3. Put on gable flashing
   
4. put on guttering (this side)
   
5. Down pipes.
   

Still will have to do the inside.

Thanks it's taking a lot of my spare time but I want the birds back into flghts as soon as I can.

It will still take a few more weeks before that.

Wow! How cool...but it looks like ALOT of work! Do you breed English Budgies? Have any closer Pictures?

If you go to the show section Daz has posted much about show standards and Englishes. Also in the budgie pics if you do a search you will see some of his birds closer up .

I've just been following this very interesting thread and have to say Daz, that's a lot of dedication and you've got some very lucky birds there. I've been thinking about having a garden aviary put in myself, so I'm really keen to see what others are doing.

Thanks Feathercrest. I have put a whirlybird on the roof and currently working on the electrics in side.

Well the External is nearly finished.

 

 

 

But I have started on the inside.

 

Insulation has been installed and I am starting to sheet the walls. I am using a white coated masonite. This will help keep the flights and breeding room cool and clean.

 

 

The Electrics are nearly finished. There is power in the shed and after I finish the sheeting will install the lighting.

Wow that is so cool. It looks very professional.

 

I was thinking if you did want to extend to have an outside flight. Couldn't you have a double mesh wall, to stop the wild birds from being able to come into contact with your birds?

When you've finished with yours Daz, would you care to come and build me one?

Finished sheeting all the walls except the top of one end. I have to alter the lighting cabling there.

 

Power has been great. once the ceiling sheets are done i'll connect the lights up.

 

 

Even the door is sheeted.

 

I thermoscaned the external west wall. Sheet temperature was 63.5C and on the inside wall was 40.5. So I have lost 23 degs with the insulation.

 

Air temperature was 39 C. Temperature under the patio is 39C so no difference.

 

I think it will work.

daz i think if you are worried about the heat then it would be simply to get a small hang on air conditioner and put it in one of the windows or you could get a small cheap air conditioner. by the sound of it you are good with electronics so you could add a timer to turn the air conditioner on when the internal temp. is to high and to turn off when it is set. i have that type of setting for my hen house the air turns on when it becomes about 25C. but you may want a diff. temp. for your birds. hope this idea helps.

Sco-tie it's not good to have air conditioners in the breeding room. they dry out the eggs. It is best to have an evaporative air conditioner.

Sheeting and Electrical is complete.

 

Stands for the cages are completed.

 

I am going to move the birds back in this afternoon, when cooler.

Next week i'll start on the flights.
