November 15, 200618 yr Anouncement........ The DNA results have come back... Fluffy is a ........cock. I already knew that!!!! He doesn't have PVD or PFBD. He is a Feather Duster. Quarentine over. I will now move him and his "Sister" into the Nursary with the other chicks and the Foster Parents can now go back to the flight. I'll take some photos of them in the nursary latter. November 15, 200618 yr I'm glad he doesn't have to deal with an illness on top of being a feather duster.

November 23, 200618 yr He is still alive, I have him on high protien feed. But he is not enjoying things. He is still in the nursary but every couple of days one or two chicks get to go into the flight. Saturday all the birds are being relocated into the garge so he will have plenty of others to be with.
November 23, 200618 yr Daz, will you trim the feathers around his face, or allow nature to take it's course? Do you think he is aggressive because that is his nature or because it is an aspect of the defective genes? I have never seen a feather duster in person, and to be quite honest, have never read up much on them. Would you mind keeping this thread updated on a regular basis so we can all learn what is involved in caring for a feather duster? Poor little mite. :bluebudgie:
November 23, 200618 yr Oh my gosh Daz he is just gorgeous.I love him!!!!!He is very lucky ha has got such a good home.
November 23, 200618 yr Is there a higher rate of male feather dusters than females- is it something that can pop up in either sex or- like cinnamon, opaline etc does it occur more regularly in one?? Its a genetic thing right? just wondering as things like haemophilia (in people) are passed from male to male. He just makes you want to throw him in a chicken plucker!! :bluebudgie: :ausb: :hap:

November 23, 200618 yr it is genetic it is considered the "down syndrome" of budgies as like in humans. It is not sex-linked though. I am not sure about the higher incident of male vs female, Daz may know that question. As Rainbow said please keep us updated he has come part of our lives as many of the budgies on this forum and we would love to hear and see pics of him of course .
November 24, 200618 yr I am guessing we all want to see pictures of Fluffy looking healthy. But if his lifespan is limited to just some weeks (like about now)....is it possible we wouldn't really want to see pictures of Fluffy declining if that is the stage he is at ? Would it be like waiting for someone to die and watching for signs ? I am sure if Daz had some good news or good pictures, we would have shared in them. We live in hope though, for the ongoing better health of Fluffy. My research says they last around 8 weeks any longer than that would be down to Daz's extra care and attention.
