hi, I have 2 flightless budgies, not because they were clipped but because they don't have there flight feather's threw having pulpitis when they were babies. I took them to the vet yesterday he said everything was fine......... anyway (getting to the point) I have read alot of the forum's and you all seem to have such tame and friendly birds, I would like to have this type of relationship with my 2 little friends but I kinda don't really know how to go about it I have had advice from other's but figure I could use all the help I can get

 

how did some of you tame your birds? tips and advice would be great thanks

I am pretty new to owning budgies myself, I am not sure what Pulpitis is but I was lucky enough to get a little one who flew ... we just put our hand in Chico's cage to get him used to our touch and smell too I spose, and he gradually calmed down, then we put our finger in front of him and nudged his belly saying "up" a few times and now he gets on our finger ... he still doesnt land on our head and shoulders but I spose that will come in time ... and we repeat words to him that we want him to learn first ... still no luck there but he is only young .... not sure how long it takes for them to talk , but patience is a virtue ... :hap:

Hi MissHarley, thanks for the reply to my post. we are succeeding with the stepping up but only out of the cage, when they are inside the cage they don't want to know me, but I guess they will get used to it in time

that is common my 2 are like that also, I added suggestions on your other post.

I would finger tame them inside the cage first. As then they have to step up on your finger to get out and have fun. Offer them millet.
