Single Dad And Three Babies

Featured Replies

Hi,

One of my original hens (Emma) died on the weekend. She was in a breeding cabinet with three babies (hatched about a wk ago)and her husband (Mr Simington).

At first I was thinking that I would need to hand rear them but their Dad seems to be doing a great job. Feeding them and keeping them warm. He even gets quite nasty at me when I check how things are going. Needless to say he is much busier now and I only see him in the cabinet to get some food then hes off in the nest box. Just wondering if any one else has had this ? and did they run into any problems along the way. Is there anything I need to look out for of do I just let Mr Simington get on with it. from Jule

PS Emma was laid to rest that afternoon in front of my daughters bedroom (She was her favorite bird). A very emotional service conducted by myself . :angel1:

I am sorry to hear about Emma :ausb: Hope all goes well with yor babies.

((hugs)) to your daughter and what a beautiful way to express love for your budgie.

Glad the dad is doing well with the babies.

I'm really sorry about Emma hope her chicks live to carry on her spirit.

I had two hens with chicks die at the same time and the dads did a good job ,but i put some millet and a small amount of food in the box for them to nibble on. Unfortunatly they died later from mites same as the two mums. But I couldn't tell why at the time.

But she has removed the mum. The mum passed away unfortunately.

Jule: It sounds like papa is doing a good job and I wish you and the chickies well.
