Posted October 15, 200618 yr One day Louy went down to the water to have a drink, then he climbed along the cage to get to the food, but half way through he got his claw stuck on one of the cage doars and he couldnt leave. The only way to free him was to lift the doar up. even though this hurt him.
October 15, 200618 yr I'm sorry he was hurt, but how could we possibly keep them from climbing around the cage? Shell
October 15, 200618 yr I'm sorry he was hurt, but how could we possibly keep them from climbing around the cage?Shell l agree , it's impossible to not let them climb around the cage , that's what they do to get around or they fly . l'm sorry your louy got hurt .
October 16, 200618 yr They have to climb and clamber around their cages, it's a natural thing for them to do just like we walk and good exercise too! It's up to us, as budgie owners, to make sure they have a large enough and safe cage design, some models out there aren't all that great.
October 16, 200618 yr Sorry about your Louy. Since it pretty much is impossible to stop a budgie from climbing, nail clipping I think could prevent stuff like that.

October 16, 200618 yr Why would you put cellophane up? If I were you, I would save up for a cage with a little different design if this happens frequently. If this is a one-time incident, I would keep an eye out for it happening again. How exactly did he get caught? What kind of doors does the cage have? Are his nails too long?
October 17, 200618 yr ? Cellophane, we want to PROMOTE budgie exercise and freedom and not stifle it! As somebody suggested, it could be lethal if ingested but what is the point anyhow? Budgies need time out of the cage, a safe cage to live in/climb on to get their exercise and budgie time to play and mess around. Please reevaluate your current setup and see where improvements are needed to make your budgie (and you) happier.
October 17, 200618 yr Author Well the book was saying to put that on a show bird cage. But you as an adult should know by now that some people (like me because im a child) are not as smart at you does not mean you have to be so rude. Im a child and im more considerate then some of you people! :
October 17, 200618 yr Yes Thats right at least he was suggesting something!!! Go children I am also a child!
October 17, 200618 yr Cages are designed to encourage climbing, to prevent this would be cruel because budgies climb naturally. A well designed cage won't have strange angles in the bars for toes to get stuck in making climbing safe. If you have a strangely shaped cage or round cage you could come up against problems where bars slant together.

October 18, 200618 yr Is it one of those cages with the doors that lift up - maybe it wasnt shut properly and he got his little foot jammed under it and maybe knocked it shut. Without seeing the cage I dont know. But if it was one of these doors I use pegs to clip them shut.
