This Weekend Trip

I need some advice here. We are going to my mom's for the weekend (4 hour trip by car). Is it better to leave them (two budgies) home with plenty of fresh water and food where they will only be alone for one full day or do I bring them with us in a travel cage? The problem with this is the cage that I will have up at my mom's is not their cage...it is a completely different cage that I wanted to have there for when we do bring them when we go for a week at a time (the one they are in at home is way too big to travel with). Will this be more stressful than leaving them alone for a day??

Any advice in a hurry would be great as we are leaving first thing in the morning. I never thought about it being stressful for them being in a different cage until my husband mentioned it.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

This depends on the birds, do they like to check out new things? If so it might be an idea to take them for this short trip, you stated they will have to be in this different cage at some point when you visit for longer.

If you do make sure there is seed in the dishes and on the ground incase they have trouble finding it, also take some known fave toys along with them and lots of millet for treats.

I will not state Yes take the birds or No don't, these are your bird and you have the final say. But there are a few things to think about.

Thank you...I guess you are right, they will have to get used to the new cage eventually...I just wondered if it was worth the "stress" for them for such a short time, or if they would be less stressed to just stay at home with a radio on and plenty of food and water (water can be in a dispenser that doesn't allow it to become contaminated).

Personally I would leave them at home I think the stress on the birds and you is not necessary :glare:. We left Frid, Sat and came home Sunday. I gave them 2 water dishes and 2 food dishes and they were content and okay and I covered 1/2 the cage so they could go there for rest and night time and it worked okay. They were happy to get out when we got home but everyone was good. If it was for alonger period then taking them might be a consideration or a house sitter.

I would also leave them but do you have anyone who could drop by and make sure they are okay?
