New Budgie

I purchased my first budgie Bertie Saturday, He seemed to be a little unwell so i made an appointment at the vets for the following day but unfortunately he had passed away. I still took him to the vets to see what he died from but they couldnt find anything wrong. I have had another budge who is still young and i cant tell the sex of this one yet. Its all white and im told its an albino budgie so i named it snowflake as i couldnt keep calling him it. This one seems really happy in its cage, its bobbing its head and this one will let me stroke his front. The only thing is that hes not eating. Does anyone have any advice for me please. I have 2 food places for him in his cage and he will not touch it, i have put some on the floor of the cage. im just a little worried that he wont eat. i dont know how long they can go for without eating. Even though hes not eating i still change it daily to keep it fresh.

Are you sure he's not eating? Are there any seed husks in the food dishes? Do you know what food he was being fed before you got him? You could try offering him a millet spray to tempt him to eat.

I was told he was eating trill so i brought the same, i have tried millet and he just looks at it and carrys on tweeting.

Hi Bertie, Sorry for your loss. I wouldn't take your bird back to that vet. If he can't tell the sex of a budgie he is not a proper avian vet. You will probibly find that snow flake is getting used to the new suroundings. The best thing to do is leave him to himself. Make sure that there is plenty of seed and fresh water for him and he will find it when hungary.

When you have finished the trill, don't get it again, there is no nutrician to it. The pet store has better seed than that.

In joy the forum and ask lots of questions. :D

Actually, Trill is by far the best seed i've seen around here. Any mix i've got from a pet store has had little variety and has been dusty.

I agree with Bea Trill is far the best and has the most variation in seed - What Trill are you looking at Daz not the same one as the rest of us I bet.

sorry for your loss, welcome to our boards

to ensure Snowflake is an albino he should have red eyes if his eyes are dark they he maybe a darkeyed clear or double factor spangle.

Do you have any pics you can post? :D

I only have a picture on my phone and dont really know how to put it on the computer but i will do the weekend. His eyes are red. not sure if its male or female yet. I was upset about Bertie i only had him a few days. i hope snow flake lasts longer

Saddly it happens and it was not your fault you did all the right steps to help Bertie ((hugs)). Snowflake should be just fine - can you describe the cere? Albinos in males the cere will always stay a deep pink and females are more of a whitish pink with white nasal rings and will turn tannish after the first molt.

Its cere is like a dirty white colour if that helps. Snowlfake has started eating now and lets me rub his belly. i have noticed underneath him that his feathers have gone green. im not sure where this has come from, i have looked at his toys and removed the wooden one with colour on it, how do i get rid of the colour, ihave tried to hook the bath on the cage and its just not interested. i will post a picture once i have figured out how. i will get there eventually.
