Posted September 17, 200618 yr When Lily sits on the ledge, I have often run into the aviary thinking she is dead. She sits like this for 30 minutes at a time annd even today Hubby would not believe me, he too thought she was dead. Today she opened her eyes when she heard the camera, but usually her eyes are closed, with one leg up in the air, and almost on her side. Can anyone tell me as to why she like this position Cindy
September 17, 200618 yr I have had a few budgies that liked to sleep like that and one that hung upside down from his perch like a bat. Like people are very diverse, so are budgies. And they provide us with a great deal of enjoyment don't they
September 17, 200618 yr I have a very large female who I noticed laying down on top of one of the nest boxes the other day with her head hanging over the side (thinking she was dead as she was a bit overweight when I got her) but have realised now its just 'her thing' to do!!
September 17, 200618 yr I would suggest either calling your vet and asking about it, or just making an appointment to take her in. A phone call won't hurt anything, and in case there is a problem you won't have the guilt later of "...what if I had only called?...." A healthy bird will rest in an upright position on one foot. If she is laying down, my guess would be somewhere her insides don't feel right and she lays that way possibly to relieve pressure. At least, that has been my experience. Is she overweight at all?
September 18, 200618 yr I noticed that recently Oscar is lying down like that! He fell asleep lying completely flat out inside his crisp packet!!! I also thought he was dead! :budgiedance:
September 18, 200618 yr Two of my budgies lay down to sleep now and again its perfectly normal and your baby is just comfy.
September 25, 200618 yr Caught her again today having an afternoon siesta- always the same spot too! I woke her up so she wasn't quite flat out when I took the picture....
