Posted August 27, 200618 yr I'm really worried about Pippin. Just recently he found out he was all grown up and started having fun with his see-saw mirror and one of his twig perches. This lasted a couple of weeks and then everything was back to normal . Now over the last few days his behaviour has changed and he no longer wants to spend time outside his cage or even any time with me which is very unusual as he normally would spend as much of his free time sitting on me. He is a really good talker and this has stopped too. Now, whenever I let him out he stays out for about 30 mins and then puts himself back in and yesterday and today I have had to put my hand in his cage to get him out and within minutes he has gone back in again. He has been cuddling up to one particular toy a lot over the last few days and I have just removed it in the hope that this will stop the problem, but I'm worried now if I have done the right thing. Can anyone help ???
August 27, 200618 yr with this type of behavior change I would say he may be sick and I would have a vet check out if it persists.

August 27, 200618 yr for budgies they don't show real signs until it really is too late He could be perfectly okay maybe had a stressful day, something frightened him that you didn't know, the whole being protective over the toy (which was a good decision on your part to take out) who know if they could only talk
August 28, 200618 yr Author Thanks for that Lovey. I will see how he goes over the next couple of days and if there's no improvement I will get him checked out at the vets just to be on the safe side.
August 29, 200618 yr Sounds to me that he is going through his terrible teens period. How old is Pippin?
August 29, 200618 yr Author Sounds to me that he is going through his terrible teens period. How old is Pippin? He was one in May. What age is classed as a teen for a budgie ??
August 29, 200618 yr Oh then its not that then, they usually hit that stage at around 3-4 months. But its all the symptons of a stroppy teenage budgie.
August 29, 200618 yr Author could be moulting behavior too Well he has just had as mini moult but he seems to have these every couple of months. His little head is all itchy for him at the moment, but he wont let you scratch it. It only lasted for a week but do you think that this may be his problem. I have noticed a difference in him since I took the toy away and I also removed his two mirrors. Should I introduce these back into his cage or leave them out.
August 29, 200618 yr no leave them out that is what he was spending too much time with, I would let him play with them during flight time and spend as much time as you can with him. Maybe even thinking in the future to get a 2nd budgie that made a huge difference with Pretty's personality.

I'm going to monitor Pippins behaviour and see how much of a difference removing the toy and mirrors make and then decide if getting another budgie would a good idea. Must be honest the thought of a little baby, well enough said. Thanks everyone who gave me advice.
