Sweet Peas

Is it safe to grow sweet peas up against the mesh walls of an aviary.

Huuby suggested doing this to give them protection and something to play with.

I would say they are okay - all other peas are fine, so these should be too. Don't know how well they would grow though - little beaks would be constantly 'pruning' them :ausb:

Thanks.

I don't mind them pruning, they have done it to most of my native plants. I just put them back outside until they start growing again. The plants i mean, not the birds :ausb:

I'm not sure about the flowering sweet peas but the normal sugar snap peas would be alright. I should look into the flowering sweet peas. I would imagine it would be okay. but I should look anyway.

Thanks, I could not find anything about flowering sweet peas. I've planted some outside the aviary and so far they are not interested. Still too busy finding all the nooks and crannies in their new home.

I think Sweet peas might actually be poisonous. Because we definately can't eat them.
