Mate For Life?

Evening All :hap:

Question: When two budgies establish a relationship ie: preening, courting, mating, is this the only mate they will have or will they take up with another should their 'favourite' not be around any more?

:(

no they will pretty much breed with any other budgie allthough colour sometimes comes into it

Even the seemingly most devoted budgies will be in a position that the male goes off and mates with another while his girl is busy in a nest incubating eggs. A breeder can break up a pairing to put another couple together for breeding purposes. Budgies are only too happy to accomodate.

All I can say is, budgies are like humans. They may bond with one budgie, but they will change when they want to and cheat on their current partner. Just think... humans. :(

I've got a budgie who, while his "love of his life" partner is in hatching eggs...he is out bonking another girl budgie. This other girl budgie has set up a nest and is also bonking another boy budgie.....so babies from any one of two Dads right now. :(

That is why I have closed breeding...so I know whos baby is whose. :(

I had one pair that only had eyes for each other. They were so in love. :(

Hmmm I wonder why they are called the 'Australian Lovebirds' if they are such Cheaters!!! (Laughing out loud)

Ah, but their cheating never seems to cause a divorce, does it??? :D

*****making notes***** budgies must sign marriage certificates before budgie bonking :D

Mmm, does that mean your rope perch signed a marriage certificate??? :D:(:P

The rope perch is just plain naughty, naughty, naughty :D

Poor Gherkin and Buzz (R.I.P) :P

This is a question i always think of. Beacuse my Ariel wont go NEAR my other male Kirby in any cage, anywhere in the house :( She only shows Chico nesting attention, even though they have had 2 or 3 clutches of infertile eggs :( (Laughing out loud)... But thats just becuase Chico doesnt beleive he has to mount her in order to have real babies :) (Laughing out loud)...

ps-Lin, is that Gherk in you signature? Looks awefully like him! :D

Kirby

Kirby, Adam did my signature, so he could have used Gherkin as the model. I did email him some fuzzy pics of my Scruffy, who looks very similar, but I doubt I took such a good picture as that is

my I just visited this thread today what an interesting conversation :ausb: and peoples views.

So who is the daddy is the real question huh :)
