Last few days i've been thinking that i'd like to set up a breeding pair in my room. It's easily warm enough in the house (about 15C overnight, 20C the rest of the time) so who would like to help me choose which pair i'm going to set up?

 

Here's the few i'm thinking of:

 

Gherkin (green dominant pied) and Gerri (albino)

Lime (normal green) and Bubbles (cinnamon opaline violet)

Patrick (violet spangle) and Akala (greywing opaline cobalt)

 

I'm thinking Pat and Akala might have the most interesting babies...but if Lime and Bubbles would make some opaline greens then i'm interested.

 

Any thoughts?

 

 

I've made up my mind to bring Pat and Akala inside. What colours could i get?

 

Edit: okay, i went out to fetch Pat and Kala and found Bob pashing. So i'm using Bob instead of Pat. They're in the breeding cage now and Bob is so excited. Warbling happily and feeding his lovely lady. I forgot how sweet it was watching a couple of budgies in love.

Is bubbles a boy or a girl? If bubbles is a girl, you won't get any opaline offspring in this generation. If bubbles is a boy all your baby girls will be opaline and your boys split for it.

What colour is bob??

I think it's time Gherkin was a Mummy again! I often think of those bursting crops on his last babies, and have a little giggle about him

I don't think there's any girl for Gherky but Buzz (RIP). Poor boy.

Mine when put together with random mate, dont touch for days....im jelious of you... again :hap: (Laughing out loud)

I'll get a few photos in a minute. Like i said up there, this isn't a random pair. I was going to use a random pair but then saw Akala kissing Bob, so thought it would be sweet to use a natural pair.

Update is nothing happened. I might try again later in the Spring, maybe set them up over the September school holidays. I put them back in the aviary today as i'm going away for 4 days tomorrow and my brother didn't want an extra cage to feed, water and clean!

Well she did inspect the nest box, she was in there all the time for the past month and a half. I only ever saw them mate once, then nothing. In the spring i'd like to get a completely new pair so that i can have some more unrelated budgies in the aviary. Picking pairs at the moment is IMPOSSIBLE! All the blues are related to each other and all the greens are related. I would like to get (as my new pair) a blue or grey spangle and a yellow face dom pied hen.
