What Should I Do?

With me using a cage like this, and there being a divider seperating the 4 budgies, will Passion & Loverboy still breed, or do I need to put them in a seperate cage and put them in another room? Or take Casper & Jasper out and put them in another cage and remove the divider, any suggestions would be helpful.

Again here is a picture of the cage.

If they are going to breed, they will in that cage. Have you thought of using a piece of ply as your divider so there are no distractions from the neighbours ?

Haven't thought about that, would it be easier to move Casper & Japser to another cage for the time being? I don't plan on breeding them 2 atleast for another 4-6 months. I want them to get a little more age on them before breeding them.

One more question, right now I have the nesting box resting on the cage floor, how can I get it off the floor so that it is atleast 3-4 inches up?

To move the nesting box, I sometimes use wire to wire it onto the side, or use a system of perches under it to support it. More room if you can attach it outside the cage and use a hatch door raised up over the entry hole.

Also yuou dont have to move the birds in the meantime if you arent breeding them, just remove the nesting box.

Does that cage have a nest box door? If not and you don't want to cut a hole in the side of the cage you can leave the box inside. The problem with that is cleaning and inspecting is much more difficult without outside access to the breeding box. If you don't mind cutting a 3" x 3" hole in the side of the cage, do that so the top of the nest box is flush with the top of the cage, and the nest box hole is centered in the hole you cut in the cage. Depending upon how sturdy the cage is to begin with, you may need to set the box on something to keep the cage from tipping.

I leveled mine to match one of the feeding doors and hung it on the outside see if you can do that if you want more room.

They will breed like that, but I would be worried with the other two getting upset becuase they can see a nest site and other budgies are breeding but they can't, the hen might turn on her friend or try and attack the other hen through the bars. OF cuase they could also be fine with it all, it's just a maybe.

personally I would either move the other pair and give the breeding ones run of that whole cage, beucase remember with breeding you need room for all the bubs as well when they are learning to feed themselves. Or move the breeders into a new cage for all the same reasons.

Casper & Jasper (the white ones) are the ones that are on the side of the cage that does not have the nesting box, what I am wanting to know is, when I am going to breed Passion & Loverboy (the green budgies), should I move Casper & Jasper to another cage and give Passion & Loverboy more room and privacy?

YES........... as Nerwen also said, more room is needed for the babies when they fledge and learn to fly. So they will need all that space.

okay, by looking at Passion's cere, is she going out of breeding season?

I would try to buy another cage for the other two and remove the devide for more room. I would also put the nest box higher and outside as surgested.

I would place the second cage next to that one. Budgies are comunal birds and would rather breed with other birds around.

That is why I have my breeding cages facing the flight. So they think they are in a larger inviroment.

have you had any issues with birds that were paired together before that are now paired with different birds?

everytime I allow my dominant pied access to view the females he always pays attention to my now retired normal blue hen which was the one he was paired with for a year.

I answered this in another post, I think. She is fine, if she is going out of condition Loverboy will quickly bring her back in with his singing and attentions. :)

I want to breed Passion with Jasper and Casper with Loverboy, but when I tried to split them up they got along fine and next thing I knew Casper managed to get throught the divider and the top of the cage and was in the same side as Passion & Jasper. Jealous I guess that Jasper was with another woman (Laughing out loud). The new pairs seemed to get along fine, but how can I get Casper to stay on her side of the cage? Or should I put her & Loverboy in a seperate cage?
