How Old

I have a lovely hen from one of last years clutches, and I would like to put her in with a cock I bought a little while ago (He's still in quartentine) but am concerned that she is too young to breed yet, I'm in no hurry, but was thinking that when he comes out of quarentine next week, if it would be okay to put them together. I have a breeding cage that I use for specific pairing, which has a nest box attached, but debated whether puting them together would force her to breed? (I'd like to leave them till spring) if I just blocked off the nest box, would that stop her? or would she just breed naturally when she's old enough? ie, if she's too young she won't breed? Her cere is well coloured and has been for a while. I'd have to find my breeding records but I think that she was born in august/sept

recommended 12 months but better 18 months because they are more emotionally ready, also it is better to pair them up with a mate that has already raised a clutch if possible.

Blocking off the nesting box entrance so they can't get in should prevent them from breeding.

How long has the cock bi in Quarrentine?. How old is he?

If she was hatched in August you can start to breed with her this august.

Don't know how old the cock is, got him in excange for a blue cock, he's been in quarentine 45 days so far, usually do 50, not in a hurry to put him in the avery, didn't like the look of the place he come from, not neglected as such, just not what I consider best? people know nothing, didn't want to learn anything. Only left my cock (Nearly backed out) to try to slow down the inevitable in breeding that will occur there. This one seems healthey enough, Vet gave him the all clear. friendly sociable bird. almost made a pet out of him, I don't like to keep them inside tho, prefer them out in the avery.

Well so long as he is about 12 months old when he comes out of quarentine, he should be okay.
