Posted June 17, 200619 yr I have just collected a budgie today, a friend for my 4yo cockatiel. I have put them together and they are just staying away from ech other at the moment. BUT... I just noticed that the baby girl (aprox 6 months) has a big overbite! Can anyone tell me what i have to do, if anything to fix it?? It is terrible! Please help!
June 17, 200619 yr um you should be keeping that budgie away from your tril for atleast a month to 45 days. Quarantine is a must no matter where you got the bird from, they should be in seperate rooms. as for the overbite.. i would call your avian vet up, but a picture to see what it looks like would be nice.
June 19, 200619 yr I'm not sure what you mean by 'together' but a tiel and a budgie can never be kept in the same cage, ever. It's a disaster waiting to happen. As well as that, like brokendreamz said, 30 days is the minimum for quarantine. During quarantine the two birds should be in separate cages in separate rooms of the house. After that the two can be allowed out of their cages together but should be supervised at ALL times.
June 19, 200619 yr Can you post a picture of your budgie so we can help you out to see if that is an overbite? I 2nd everything Bea and Brokendreamz said quaratine and NOT housing them together.
June 20, 200619 yr Quarintine is done for 30 to 45 days, because even if your new bird looks healthy, it could be carrying a hidden disease and the stress of relocating into a new home can bring that disease out and your budgie could pass it on to your cockatiel. The reason for 30 to 45 days is most diseases if any will show in this time. I know first hand how important quarintine is. if I hadn't quarintined I would be treating all my budgies for scaley face now. The reason why you should not house a cockateil in the same cage as a budgie is because: 1. They have different dietry requirements 2. The larger cockatiel can badly hurt the budgie 3. The more aggressive budgie could hurt your cockatiel. You can however let them outside for flight time together (supervised) and house them in cages next to each other (though not for the first 30 to 45 days because of quarintine).
